Using advanced knowledge, discretion, and judgment, the Training & Development Specialist is responsible for the authoring of original content training materials using the Instructional System Development (ISD) process and for production of complex training materials using program guidelines. The incumbent is also responsible for ensuring the technical accuracy and providing content support and consulting to the members of the courseware development team, corporate proposal team, engineers, and program managers. The position calls for the exercise of professional discretion and judgment; work output is intellectual and varied in nature.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

* Performs design, development, documentation, analysis, creation, testing and modification of computer-based training systems, including prototypes, based on and related to user or system design specifications.

* Works with assigned teammates to design and develop computer training products through a process that includes review and research of government furnished materials (GFM) and other content resources. Prepares learning objectives, interviews Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), locates and extracts data from technical documents, and incorporates information into lesson materials in a standard format.

* Develops training materials in a variety of instructional media. Follows established professional guidelines to design and develop training materials for delivery in a learning environment, including computer-based and instructor-based training.

* Using skills of invention and imagination combined with professional experience, designs and develops original training materials in a variety of cutting edge instructional media. Designs and develops training materials for delivery in a state-of-the-art learning environment, including computer-based and instructor-based training, interactive classrooms, mobile applications, and training devices

* Using appropriate professional judgment and discretion, analyzes and interprets manufacturer specifications, documents and associated technical documents to develop training content.

* Using skills of invention and imagination, authors original training documents and materials using computerized database, word processing, and computer-based training authoring tools.

* Revises courseware documents and training materials based on technical reviews by peer authors, SMEs, management, quality assurance, and customers.

* Applies ISD standards for documents and training materials design, format, word usage, and writing style.

Other Duties and Responsibilities:

* Exercises good judgment in interpreting instructions and assumes responsibility for accuracy and completeness of work produced.

* Works with other team members and the customer to validate training materials.

* Travels as required by management.

* Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Ability:

* Read, write and speak fluent English.

* Experience in an eLearning instructional designer (ID) or training content developer position.

* Good understanding of adult learning theory and trends in eLearning information dissemination.

* Working knowledge of the various tools and techniques used in producing eLearning.

* Strong customer presentation and pre-sales, client services and support skills.

* Experience using Rapid Development tools such as Captivate and/or Impression.

* Energetic self-starter with initiative and creative approach to problem solving.

* Excellent time keeping and scheduling skills.

* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

* Good blend of technical and creative dexterity.

* Exercises good judgment, and assumes responsibility for accuracy and completeness of work.

* Accepts direction from other managers on various projects.

* Basic knowledge of flight/aircrew training.

* Solid knowledge of computers, Microsoft Windows and Office software

Education and Formal Training:

Bachelor’s Degree in an appropriate discipline (ISD, Education, Curriculum Development, Educational Psychology) or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training. Master’s degree preferred.

Experience:

One to three years of experience in instructional analysis, development, delivery, or technical writing. Military aircrew or maintenance experience is desired.
