Job Description

Summary Statement:

Applies extensive knowledge of principles, theories, concepts and industry practices and standards in the area of systems engineering and methodology to develop, validate and manage complex engineering system requirements and architecture from detail parts up to a product level system.

Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities:

Develops and designs analytical solutions to complex or unusual problems requiring considerable ingenuity and innovation relative to design, development, application, testing and requirements of systems for operations.

Applies extensive systems engineering knowledge to design, development, application, testing, etc. to ensure requirements are met.

Work with management and engineering staff to determine methods of compliance for all requirements from detail parts through complex systems to implement plans and recommendations; consults with project personnel and others to provide technical assistance and information.

Interpret, communicate and evaluate product design for conformance to engineering principles, customer requirements, quality standards, specifications and regulatory design criteria; validates conformity to design standards and specifications as well as customer requirements.

Actively participate and sometimes lead in risk analyses, program change control board, root cause/corrective action investigations, preliminary design reviews, critical design reviews, test readiness reviews, supplier control drawing creations or reviews, reliability determinations, and develop verification and compliance requirements, plans, and reports.

Evaluates activities in modifying existing designs, improving production techniques, and developing test procedures to meet system / program requirements.

May act as Project Manager on large or complex projects, as required; provides guidance to teams on design, development, application, test and requirements issues. Works with current or prospective customers or vendors on systems engineering matters related to the job assignment.

Ancillary Job Functions and Responsibilities:

This position may provide administrative and technical leadership over other Stakeholders in the department. Performs other duties as required; these duties may include assignments in job classifications other than the primary assignment.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Formal Education, Training, Professional Certification and Work Experience:

Bachelor level degree university in engineering discipline from an accredited four-year college – a graduate degree in Systems Engineering is a plus and six (6) or more years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. Professional Engineer Certification desired. Experience in requirements management and tracking of complex systems. Experience may be substituted for the formal education and training requirements in this section at the discretion of management.

Level of Supervision Required:

Works under general direction. Sound judgment, completeness and accuracy are expected. Receives guidance as to results expected and to resolve complex problems. Exercises latitude in determining activities and approaches within moderate to wide parameters.

Communication and Special Skills:

* Must be able to arrive to work on time and attend regularly
* Must be able to fluently read and write the English language, perform basic mathematical calculations and interpret and comprehend company policies, procedures, safety instructions and other like documents
* Competent in the use of standard software applications such as Microsoft Word and Excel. * Communicate effectively tailoring to technical and non-technical audiences using electronic media and in written and verbal forms
* Exceptional interpersonal and team building skills with solid analytical, problem identification, and resolution skills.
* Experience with development, enhancement and implementation of Engineering software tools and processes.
* Experience using requirements database languages, establishing schema and reports with tools such as DOORS, Rational, TeamCenter SE, or other similar requirements database languages.
* Experience in object-oriented analysis and design is desired.
* Working knowledge of Visual Basic and Structured Query Language.

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the stakeholder is regularly required to sit and talk and hear. The Stakeholder is occasionally required to stand and walk, use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The Stakeholder must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus. Must be able to travel between facilities and operate standard office equipment. Work in excess of eight (8) hours per day and five (5) days per week as required. Must be able to ascend and descend stairs.

Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job, the stakeholder is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Mental Requirements:

Able to work as a team member, highly organized, works well under stress and handle multiple priorities. Must possess interpersonal and communication skills to interact with other people.

Days to be Worked: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday

Hours: 8:00am-4:30pm
