Job Purpose:

The System Chief Pilot has overall responsibility for supervision and control of the pilot work force. They are the back-up liaison with the FAA concerning matters of operational policy, procedure and pilot work force management. This position has supervisory responsibility for company regulatory compliance in all flight operations-related matters. The System Chief Pilot is considered a key management position.

Job Qualifications:

Required:

* Bachelor’s degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university or equivalent combination of education and experience.

* Seven to ten years of experience in airline operations.

* Prior experience in flight operations management.

* Requires extensive knowledge of aviation safety standards, safe operating practices, and aviation training

* Requires knowledge of Advanced Qualification Programs Management

* Leadership experience in large organization.

* Must be adroit in ability to communicate at all levels, both inside and outside the company.

* Must be comfortable addressing large groups of people.

* Airline Transport Pilot Certificate.

* First Class FAA medical certificate (when exercising the privileges of an ATP).

* Must be able to perform basic mathematical calculations and be able to apply basic statistical analysis

Job Specifics:

* Establish and review objectives relative to the department

* Establish and review broad objectives/recommend department/business objectives.

* Identification and analysis of diverse factors

* Solving problems that are complex, varied and only mildly related to those seen before.

* Ability to deal with changing deadlines, frequent inquiries and changing priorities often result in substantial extra effort.

* Responsible for establishing, maintaining and providing an exceptional role model for acceptable standards of performance, image and conduct for company pilots and other subordinates

* Administer disciplinary action over company pilots and other subordinates. Coordinate these actions with the pilot group representatives, Human Resources and the company’s legal representation.

* Responsible for pilot performance in all flight operations associated processes, including operational control, flight planning, navigation, exit row seating program, communications and ATC procedures, airman duties, carriage of cargo, aircraft performance operating limitations, handling of passengers and bags, weight and balance, hazardous materials, de-icing, approved areas, routes and airports, RVSM, and flight crew duty/rest time, airworthiness compliance, normal, abnormal and emergency operations and follow-up in all domestic operations.

* Establishes and maintains programs with universities, professional pilot organizations and flight schools to provide the company with a continuous source of the highest quality pilot replacements.

* Uses PC skills daily in order to perform duties. These include Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook for mail. Occasionally uses Microsoft Project.

* Frequent travel to FAA offices and Minneapolis; occasional travel to other places in the system or industry interface meetings (e.g., RAA)

* Extensive business travel by air (more than six flights per year)

* Extensive business travel by car (either local or on business travel)

* On-Call during normal off time (pager or beeper)

* Other duties as assigned.

* This is an SMS safety related position who has the responsibility for making appropriate risk assessments and decision making to achieve acceptable levels of Safety.
