Supplier Development Engineer Analyst
Location: Irvine, CA

SUMMARY

Develops, grows and communicates a functional understanding of Parker products and services sold with our suppliers and customers. Influences supplier’s behavior and commitment to quality, delivery and cost to supply the end user with a premiere customer experience. Works closely with suppliers to develop their capability to produce Parker products with repeatable and sustainable processes to ensure zero defects and on time delivery to need dates. Utilizes Lean, continuous improvement, PMP, Six-Sigma, APQP and PPAP methods in everyday activities. Builds a culture of Premier Supplier Performance innovation and strategic supplier partnerships. Hosts and supports supplier Kaizen events, conferences and symposiums. Generates and applies LEAN, Problem Solving and Innovative ideas to suppliers and the Supplier Development Organization. Develops, modifies, applies, and maintains standards for products and processes. Provides diverse and complex statistical information for manufacturing process improvement. Identifies supplier risks and work on mitigation plans with the suppliers to eliminate identified risks. Performs VAVE events with the suppliers to identify opportunities to reduce manufacturing costs.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Establish and grow supplier partnerships through training of contract requirements and customer expectations. Communicates supplier capabilities back to internal teams to assist in work transfer, long term agreements and cost reduction activities.

• Monitors delivery and quality performance, trends and manufacturing process improvements by coordinating with suppliers and verifying objective evidence. Applies problem solving techniques, to develop supplier programs to improve supplier performance and reduce risk.

• Asses supplier capacity Business Health and Production Readiness. Determines supplier succession planning, growth potential and operational sustainability.

• Refines and enhances products and processes by applying innovative continuous improvement and key lean manufacturing/production principles and techniques to critical areas of a supplier’s production (Parker Continuous Improvement). Grow and evolve the Continuous Improvement POL Database as a source of best practices.

• Provides input on supplier capability, delivery and quality to product development teams; recommends producibility improvements by facilitating cross functional process reviews, addressing technical data packages, manufacturing methods, equipment, tooling and training at the supplier.

• Initiate and train supplier in the PPAP process and other Parker initiatives. Understands statistical process controls by reviewing and maintaining applicable supporting documents (DFMEA, PFMEA, Flow Charts, Control plans. Analyzes data by completing hypothesis, normal distribution, and process capability analysis tests (Minitab). Six-Sigma project portfolio management.

• Assesses capability, delivery and quality performance (or cost-of-quality) using statistical and analytical methods. Utilizes A3 problem solving tool to drive supplier performance plans. Maintains status on actions and supports Go-To-Green process.

• Represent Parker on supplier development projects. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Work assignments may include cross-functional or project team responsibilities (e.g. continuous improvement).

• Interacts with engineering and other functional teams in the viability analysis, project management and other activities related to continuous improvement projects.

• Provides input on supplier manufacturing process to product development teams; recommends producibility improvements by facilitating process reviews, addressing technical data packages, manufacturing methods, equipment, tooling and training.

• Identifies supplier performance, trends and corrective action by coordinating with customers and suppliers. Ensures compliance to specified Parker requirements by performing in-house and supplier assessments and surveys. Develops and initiates programs to improve supplier performance.

• Prepares comprehensive reports by collecting, interpreting, analyzing, and summarizing data and making recommendations. Analyzes proposed changes in methods and materials. Compiles and writes training material and conducts training sessions on manufacturing processes.

• Refines and enhances products and processes by applying continuous improvement and key lean manufacturing/production principles and techniques to critical areas of production. Perform should cost analysis

• Supports supplier work transfers, performs supplier capability analysis to support the source selection process, provides knowledge transfer to new suppliers and monitors the development of new processes and products at the supplier. Identifies risks and assists suppliers during the transition phase of the transfer.

• Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing publications, establishing industry networks, benchmarking state-of-the-art practices and/or participating in other professional associations.

• Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements by studying existing and new legislation, ensuring adherence to requirements, and advising management on needed actions.

• May provide leadership to others in department. Acts as prime contact on high level projects. Establishes goals, objectives, and metrics required to complete projects. Trains and mentors less experienced employees.

• Shares specialized knowledge with others. Represents company on high-level projects. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed. Work assignments may include cross-functional or project team responsibilities (e.g. continuous improvement).

• Provide insightful decision support through analyses of information from multiple sources of data, Standardize and create efficiencies for performance reporting, reconciliations and ad hoc supplier performance, supplier excellence team and KPI reports; Analyze current and past trends in key performance indicators across the division and suppliers; Collaborate with internal teams to execute business intelligence requirements, Assist in attribution modeling and development of metrics. Assist decision making process for supplier selection through the analysis of data, present recommendations.

• Support reporting structure to internal and external customers. Serve as a liaison with IT in the development of automated models and reports for supplier excellence.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree (BS) in Manufacturing Engineering or a related technical discipline. Demonstrated ability to perform the essential functions of the job typically acquired through six or more years of related experience. SME and/or PMP certification desired. Lean training desired. Six Sigma certification desired and will be required after start date.

• Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Knowledge of aerospace industry or similar industry products and legal and regulatory requirements related to field. Knowledge in manufacturing processes (I.e.: machining, electronics, castings and forgings, special processes).

• Knowledge in standard work, ability to prepare job instructions and assess these in the suppliers. Knowledge in process standards applied to capacity analysis.

• Thorough knowledge in PPAP, APQP, SPC, PMP, general manufacturing processes of multiple commodities. Knowledge in state-of-the-art inspection, quality inspection and manufacturing engineering process. Able to establish standard process and procedures, and influence suppliers in the development and improvement of process instructions.

• Ability to effectively assess and implement continuous improvement techniques to quality and manufacturing functions.

• Ability to use standard business applications software and/or specialized data analysis tools.

• Ability to work on a variety of problems of diverse scope and complexity where analysis and evaluation of various outcomes require tradeoffs and negotiation.

• Ability to solve a wide range of difficult problems utilizing six sigma methods and A3 reporting techniques that may require coordination across multiple teams.

• Ability to solve a wide range of difficult problems in imaginative and practical ways and evaluate alternative solutions that may require coordination across multiple teams.

• Ability to establish goals and objectives to complete projects.

• Ability to routinely apply project management skills and to effectively use project scheduling computer software programs.

• Ability to assess operational, technical and business health risks at the suppliers, identify gaps to Parker expectations and manage risk mitigation plans with suppliers.

• Experience with advance Excel functions, formula, VBA, macros. Experience with data model building, databases or Business Intelligence software, Power BI, Dashboard and model creation.

• Excellent analytical, quantitative and problem-solving skills, Strong attention to detail.

• Ability to learn and understand technical applications
