Job Summary

Utilize an interdisciplinary approach focusing on customer needs and requirements to design, develop, document and test hardware and/or software systems ranging from the straightforward to extremely complex. Uses independent judgment to make decisions in day-to-day job responsibilities the majority of the time under general supervision.

Job Responsibilities

* Significant domain knowledge and knowledge of products, systems and applicable regulatory requirements in assigned portfolio (e.g. avionics products). May be considered a domain specialist or a generalist in multiple domains and/or systems area of expertise.

* Serve as a systems architect or as the lead systems engineer to capture, analyze, decompose, translate and create requirements for systems of moderate to high complexity.

* Develop functional, interface and performance specifications for hardware and software implementation. Identify and document architecturally significant requirements and technical risk areas.

* Lead technical proposal preparation and serve as the subject matter expert in non-advocate, internal and customer reviews. Support elaboration of systems activities development plans in the context of a team and with program execution, including customization of systems development processes. Lead and/or participate in DAR and SysNAR’s

* Serve as the test lead in integration, verification and validation for products and sub-systems of moderate to high complexity.

* Estimate, track, manage and report status relating to technical, cost, schedule, and risk performance for assigned scope of work which may span across multiple projects. Decisions may have major impact on cost, schedule, and technical performance.

* Serve in a design quality role (systems) helping to assure that project planning is accomplished to the appropriate level of fidelity and that development teams are following appropriate processes.

* Understand and utilize internal processes, methods and tools for systems development and documentation efforts. Develop and/or utilize prognostic metrics for system design and development. Review metrics and defects trends, identify systemic root causes and process improvements. Recommend new approaches, tools and techniques that drive continuous improvement in systems development processes

* Maintain awareness of technology within the domain or system and develop technology strategies for the domain or system. Provide inputs to technical & product roadmaps.

* Mentors product development teams in the utilization of the appropriate RC processes and tools during product development, thus increasing product quality and improving customer satisfaction.

Basic Qualifications

* Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline.

* Candidates must have experience developing hardware, software or firmware for high-assurance, embedded systems, or at least 5 years of systems engineering experience with such systems.

* Ability to quickly acquire technical domain knowledge and contribute to the design of sophisticated architectural systems.

* Experience with avionics or other aircraft system development and certification is required.

* Excellent communication skills (verbal, written and presentation).

* The candidate must be highly motivated and a self-starter, capable of prioritizing multiple tasks.

* The candidate must be willing to work with a wide variety of people and diverse teams.

Preferred, but not required, experience/skills with the following:

* Experience with safety-critical, real-time, embedded system development is highly desirable.

* Experience developing systems that are compliant with ARP-4754, RTCA DO-178, DO-160 and DO-254.

* Experience with ARINC standards ARINC 429, ARINC 664 and ARINC 661.
