We are currently searching for a Sr. Software Engineer to join our Avionics Design Assurance Center (DAC) team in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. We’re looking for an experienced engineering professional who is interested in working together with others to achieve excellence in design and efficient lifecycle execution. This position is responsible for working closely with software engineering teams to provide quality-focused technical and process oversight of product developments throughout their lifecycle.

As a DAC team member supporting the Commercial Avionics Engineering Directorate, you will help ensure designs meet quality expectations, as well as customer, regulatory, and other requirements. The role as requires the ability to influence the adoption of engineering best practices to identify and eliminate defects before delivery.

This position requires the applicant to have demonstrated experience in software development process and methods, including planning, requirements capture, implementation, verification, and validation, with a focus on civil certification(s).

Success in this position requires a Passion for Quality, Process and Continuous Improvement and the ability to build rapport with the Engineering project teams in order to influence the teams do the “right thing for the right reason”.

Job Responsibilities

* An understanding of lean value and associated savings

* Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively at multiple levels of their projects — project leadership, project team members and engineering managers

* Strong attention to detail and apply insightful judgment in order to properly assure compliance and assess necessary quality related improvements – focus on what is most important for positive outcomes.

* An ability to establish rapport with all levels of the organization, and external customers

* An ability to communicate masterfully both verbally and in writing

* Assisting with engineering project planning activities to ensure plans account for program requirements and past lessons learned, with emphasis on civil certification and quality management system objectives

* Assessing proactively and analyzing the health of projects using objective measurements and audits

* Ability to present project health in a manner that influences project execution to achieve quality outcomes and continuous improvement

* Advising project teams and leadership of design quality trends and systemic issues, and working with others to investigate, determine root cause, and recommend corrective actions to deliver high quality designs.

* A proven track record of meeting commitments while supporting multiple simultaneous projects

* Mentoring less-experienced engineers and process analysts in the areas of design quality, process, and regulatory requirements.

Basic Qualifications

* Bachelor’s degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering or Math (STEM) discipline.

* Minimum of 5 years system/software experience is required — hands-on experience as an engineer on a design & development project, including civil certification, from planning through verification and subsequent certification.

* Experience creating and following a documented development process with working knowledge and demonstrated application of DO-178B/C.

* Strong working knowledge of design process, including the Technical Consistent Process

* DOORS proficiency is required

* JIRA proficiency is required

* Working knowledge of Boeing and/or Airbus related project execution is preferred

* Knowledge of effective Design Quality Assurance principles is preferred

* Knowledge of FAA Regulatory Requirements and / or experience in civil certification focal roles is preferred

* Knowledge of industry requirements such as CMMI is preferred

* Experience in AGILE development environment is preferred

* JAMA experience is preferred

* ARP4754A experience is preferred
