Direct the activities of design engineers and cross-functional team members in the creation of new and modified designs that meet FAA certification and company requirements. Administer policies and procedures established by the company.

* Participate in developing original concepts for new interiors as well as re-designed existing interiors.

* Design interior details, assemblies, and installations including cabin side panels, tables, overheads, carpeting and padding, cabin insulation, consoles, instrument panel glareshields, stowage compartments, placards, bezels, seats, etc.

* Produce conceptual layout, installation, assembly, and detail drawings using Unigraphics computer aided design (CAD), Teamcenter.

* Lead and direct engineering and design personnel in the creation of new and modified designs that are complementary of the overall interior style, minimize weight and cost, comply with all applicable regulatory requirement,

* Track departmental programs drawings status and keep designers apprised of drawing schedule responsibilities.

* Establish schedule for design/drafting tasks based upon existing manpower.

* Plan and coordinate the work of Design Engineers in support of successful execution of interior projects.

* Attend program management meetings and communicate periodic project status, risks, and potential contingency plans

* Review and check models, drawings, reports, coordination memos of fellow Design Engineers to verify they are accurate, producible, and consistent with project requirements.

* Compose Engineering Orders (EO) to correct drafting/design errors, revise design, or incorporate changes/modifications to existing three dimensional models and drawings utilizing Unigraphics.

* Interact with outside Suppliers for the purpose of hardware, fastener, and material selection while maximizing the usage of existing off-the-shelf components wherever practical.

* Coordinate design work with Structural Analysis, Sales/Marketing, Manufacturing, Supply Management, and other team members.

* Review and validate installations and components through simulation, analysis, and test data interpretation.

* Support Production and Customer Support in the troubleshooting of assembly, installation, and operational problems.

* Provide technical support for Legal, Sales/Marketing, and Customer Service departments.

* Perform other related duties as required.

Required Experience

Requires a Bachelor’s Degree, (preferably Interior Design or Mechanical Engineering), and minimum seven years of general aviation experience in interior design.

General knowledge of all phases of aircraft design, approval, manufacturing, and service; all manufacturing processes and techniques relative to fabrication and assembly; working knowledge of Unigraphics CAD; familiarity with 14 CFR Part 23 certification requirements are required to perform the duties of this position. Knowledge of ANSI 14.5 or GD&T practices preferred. Experience with cabin lighting, ventilation, emergency equipment, non-metallic part design, and flammability preferred.
