Then this is the role for you, we are recruiting for a Senior Design and Development Engineer to join Virgin Atlantic’s (VAA) Engineering Department. Focusing specifically on the provision of Structures technical & design expertise in support of our aircraft fleet.

You will be accountable for investigation of structural defects & formulation of corrective actions to maintain maximum safety, structural integrity and reliability at optimum cost, in addition, you will be responsible for specification & implementation of Virgin Fleet structures maintenance & modification policies.


Day to day

Provision of immediate specialist technical support & rectification action in response to operational issues, incidents & AOG situations, ensuring safety, compliance and minimal disruption to the operation.

Definition and Approval of solutions to meet the company’s EASA Part 21 Design Approval requirements.

Cost effective technical management of aircraft fleet structures to ensure all safety, airworthiness and compliance requirements meet Regulatory Authority standards.

Constantly review & develop long term aircraft fleet structural reliability to meet future requirements and compliance with EASA Part M.

Provide, as part of a team, structures technical support service to VAA Operation & Hangar, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Develop maintenance policies to ensure optimum safety & reliability whilst controlling & reducing costs.

Review & investigate own fleet experience through maintenance feedback, delays and AOG incidents to prevent recurrence.

Provide technical support, mentorship and structural approval for aircraft acquisition and return & to other departments within VAA.

Compilation and approval of structural repairs, modifications, drawings and technical reports.

Provide technical assistance to departments responsible for negotiating contracts for the repair and overhaul of major components.

Assess significant Air Safety Reports/Incidents, investigate and implement corrective action as necessary, in a controlled and timely manner.


About you

To succeed in this position, you will hold an engineering degree/HND in a discipline relevant to aviation or an EASA B1 Licence (or equivalent), coupled with experience in an airline or manufacturer’s design / development / structure repair department would be highly advantageous.

A detailed and analytical person, you will use your own initiative. Whilst in this role, conveying key business information will be prevalent, and therefore you will have strong verbal and written interpersonal skills. Adaptable and flexible, with the skill to adapt and respond to changing work demands whilst working under demanding situations. Ability to make clear and unambiguous decisions, and communicate those to all levels in situations of acute pressure is vital to the success of this role. Does the above sound like you?
