Job Summary:

Senior scientist to design innovative IMS-based analytical field instruments which will be used to support applications for trace explosives and narcotics detection. The candidate should have M.S. or Ph.D. degree in analytical chemistry, physical chemistry, or other related fields, and with a strong working experience on mass spectrometers. The candidate will work closely with different discipline such as software development group to develop next generation trace detection products.

You will demonstrate success by:

* Working directly with technical teams advising them on instrumentation design and usability;

* Supporting product development by conducting tests as necessary for critical decision points;

* Initiating and executing on scientific research with an emphasis on developing and improving IMS technology, such as ionization and drift tube design;

* Writing test protocols and conducting validation testing;

* Experience ambient ionization sources;

* Experience IMS and MS theory and applications;

* Excellent documentation and communication skills are required;

* Ability to work on multiple tasks and projects;

* Conducting and coordinating in-house test and evaluation of IMS instruments;

* Providing onsite or offsite demonstrations on IMS equipment;

* Performing in-house or customer site applications experiments with IMS instruments;

* Monitoring and support IMS instruments throughout their testing and validation phase performed by various independent government agencies;

* Making presentations or writing technical papers on IMS instruments, techniques, and applications during conferences and symposia;

Qualifications

Required Education and/or Experience:

* M.S. degree in Chemistry is required, a PhD is preferred;

* Five years’ experience in applications and/or development of IMS instrumentations.

Other Essential Skills and Abilities Required:

* Excellent written and oral communication skills;

* Excellent teamwork ethic;

* Strong problem solving and creative skills;

* Must be a team player with good people and leadership skills and ability to mentor;

* Good organizational skills being able to multitask on multiple development projects;

* Proficient with Windows applications Win XP Pro;

* Proficient with Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Project, and PowerPoint.

The successful candidate will be based in the Electronic Systems business unit, in the Wilmington, MA, area. A competitive market-based compensation package, commensurate with the responsibilities and experience requirements will be provided.
