Description

Reliability, Maintainability and Systems Safety Engineer

We are a company of innovators, game changers, and entrepreneurs. As a prime contractor, we provide a broad range of communication, electronic and sensor systems used on military and commercial platforms across the globe. We embrace innovative and progressive ideas to advance our products for military and commercial customers. Electronic Systems Segment (ESS) is one of three L3 business segments, and provides a broad range of aerospace systems, security and detection systems, and pilot training.

Aviation Communication & Surveillance Systems (ACSS) designs and manufacturers avionics systems that increase safety and situational awareness while providing better efficiency and lower lifecycle costs for all commercial and military aviation operators. We work with OEMs, airlines, business jet owners, general aviation users as well as helicopter, military and unmanned air vehicle operators. We have over 75,000 products flying globally and continue to grow at a rapid pace. ACSS is a joint venture, with 70 percent owned by L3 and 30 percent owned by Thales, and is managed by L3’s Commercial Aviation sector. L3 Commercial Aviation provides holistic solutions across a wide range of services to the commercial aviation industry. From check-in to touchdown, L3 Commercial Aviation’s integrated solutions work to make air travel safer, more efficient and more effective.

This is a new, high-visibility position at ACSS, and we are seeking an experienced Senior Engineer to join our team to build and drive our Reliability, Maintainability and Systems Safety (RMS) capability across the entire scope of our RF surveillance and overall set of avionics products.

As the Senior RMS Engineer, resident Subject Matter Expert, and high-level individual contributor, you will be expected to manage multiple concurrent RMS improvement initiatives and projects and to establish the RMS role functions.

You will demonstrate success by:

* Establish reliability, maintainability and safety requirements for ACSS’s RF-based and other surveillance products.

* Conceive and develop specific test requirements for ACSS surveillance products at the systems, board, and component levels

* Work with Design Engineering, Manufacturing/Operations, R&O, Customer Support, and Quality teams to evaluate and drive improvements in the FRACAS, Reliability, and Maintainability processes and overall reporting structure.

* Work closely with Component Engineering team to manage obsolescence issues, ensuring that new components selected would help improve reliability of our products

* Directly participate with Highly Accelerated Life Test/Highly Accelerated Stress Screening (HALT/HASS) to assess product robustness and make recommendations for design changes to meet RMS requirements.

* Develop engineering solutions to prevent repetitive failures and all other problems that adversely affect ACSS products through the use of best in class failure analysis methods.

* Lead and document Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA).

* Collaborate with design teams and vendors to implement design for reliability, safety and maintainability into product and system development lifecycle.

* Participate in the development, design and installation of new and modified systems to ensure their reliability and maintainability.

* Work closely with, and in some cases, guide teams from engineering, customer service, and operations to develop, document, and implement processes and incorporate tools for application of RMS into standard work practices.

* Interface with customers both external and internal.

* Provide technical training and education to all levels of the organization.

* Recommend and lead Continuous Improvement Initiatives
