LGS is seeking a Reliability Engineer IV to under limited direction lead engineering predictions and RMA analyses of proposed and existing LGS products, and mentor other Systems Engineers in RMA philosophies and practices to enable the company to integrate strong RMA attributes into R&D and production programs for U.S. government customers.

Primary Purpose:
Under limited direction lead engineering predictions and RMA analyses of proposed and existing LGS products, and mentor other Systems Engineers in RMA philosophies and practices to enable the company to integrate strong RMA attributes into R&D and production programs for U.S. government customers.

Duties and Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible to:
-Perform RMA predictions using engineering and logistics data to meet US Government expectations in MIL-HDBK-217 and similar industry standards
-Lead the development and management of the system level FMEA. Coordinate with the component development teams to ensure component DFMEAs are complete, accurate and updated
-Using failure analysis, FRACAS, or other types of root cause analysis, report to internal and external customers as required. Determine the source of non-compliant RMA attributes
-Integrate Safety, Human Factors, provisioning, and other data to produce credible, accurate, and compliant RMA predictions
-Recommend preventive maintenance practices and strategies to meet RMA and supportability requirements. Provide ongoing technical leadership for the identification of opportunities to increase the reliability and/or productivity of LGS’s products.
-Develop, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods, utilizing knowledge of product design, materials and parts, fabrication processes, tooling and production equipment capabilities, assembly methods, and quality control standards
-Apply the concepts of physics of failure and accelerated test methods to design, develop, execute and optimize test methods and validation plans
-Clearly communicate RMA data, implications, and courses of action to other team members and customers. Train and mentor engineers not experienced in RMA processes
-Apply reliability methods and metrics to monitor reliability risk throughout the product development cycle. Provide reliability maintenance input to Project Engineering Design and equipment selection through the application of Life Cycle Costing
-Work with suppliers to improve quality, cost and flow of supplied materials throughout the entire supply chain. Investigate alternate component technologies for reduced cost or improved quality and reliability
-Estimate level of effort and associated costs used in project scheduling

Skills and Knowledge:
-Working knowledge of Weibull reports, design review and control; prediction, estimation, and reliability distribution methodology; failure mode effects and analysis; analysis of reliability testing and field failures, understanding human factors in reliability; and the ability to develop and administer

reliability information systems for failure analysis, design and reliability management over the entire product life cycle
-Experience using reliability tool kits, such as ASENT, Reliability Analytics, Windchill, or similar
-Proficient in the use of MS Office applications, especially Excel and Project
-Working knowledge of computer software programs including Weibull and Minitab applications
-Ability to communicate effectively, both oral and in written, with other managers, staff, and customers
-Ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently and independently, with minimal supervision

Working Conditions:
Work is typically performed in an office environment which requires proper safety precautions. Work may require some physical effort in the handling of light materials, boxes, or equipment.

Minimum Qualifications:
6 years of related experience

Education Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline

Preferred Qualifications:
-Master’s degree preferred in an engineering discipline
-Knowledge of manufacturing processes including 5S, Lean, Six Sigma, etc.
-Knowledge of ISO 9001:2015 Quality Management System requirements a plus

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
-Travel to other LGS locations or customer sites as necessary
-Understand and adhere to all LGS Ethical and Compliance policies
-Proactively ensure a safe work environment and adhere to LGS EH&S policies and procedures
-Perform other duties as required
-If required, obtain/retain a government security clearance at the level required to perform the duties of the position
