Would you like to work in an exciting and critical role within Radar Systems? We currently have a vacancy for a Radar Business Group Engineering Manager at our site in Cowes.
As a Radar Business Group Engineering Manager, you will report directly to the Head of Radar sector and indirectly to the Head of Engineering. You will be responsible for providing functional and delivery engineering leadership and management within the sector to ensure the timely availability of appropriate engineering capability in support of the sector portfolio.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to be responsible for the breadth of engineering responsibility for the whole radar sector; from ensuring engineering capability is maintained, sector engineering resource demand fulfilled, responsibility for PV investment, undertaking bid review activities, and ensuring all radar programmes are delivering engineering solutions to time, cost and quality using appropriately tailored governance.
Your main responsibilities as a Radar Business Group Engineering Manager will involve:
Provide all engineering resource required to meet the Radar sector demand, co-ordinating, prioritising and leading recruitment where necessary
Representing the engineering function within the sector and be the engineering management focal point across all Sector projects, campaigns and bids
Ensuring appropriate and effective application of the engineering policies, the engineering lifecycle and their manifestation in design reviews and technical bid reviews for all projects across the sector
Supporting and achieving all sector and business objectives, exceeding the Integrated Business Plan and support the implementation of the Radar Strategy
Working to continually improve engineering customer responsiveness and engagement
Management of Radar Sector facilities; putting in place and delivering investment plans across those facilities and ensuring that safe systems of work are in place and facilities are suitably maintained
Work with the Chief Technologist, Sector SDAs and Sector Technologist to ensure technology planning across the Sector is in place and it underpins and informs the product plans and strategy for the Sector
Develop business cases for investment to ensure technology advancement and insertion is realised in line with the overall Technology Plan
Undertake design review chair, engineering cost review chair and/or technical bid review chair where delegated by the Engineering Authority
Manage sector private venture funded activities
Work with the Engineering Capability BGEM and discipline leads to put in place and deliver functional plans for the development of scientific, engineering and technological skills and capability (people, processes, tools and infrastructure) within the Sector to support ongoing growth in line with both near and long term IBP objectives
Your skills and qualifications:
Essential:
Hold a degree in an Engineering discipline
Be member of a professional institution and a Chartered Engineer.
Have a detailed and comprehensive understanding of engineering principles, concepts, systems, theories and practices
Knowledge of performance and specifications relating to products and platforms
Defence engineering knowledge required as well as knowledge relating to projects within sector
Proven engineering leadership and expertise across the portfolio of defence projects
Engineering background with experience as a Project Engineering Manager and Capability lead
Working knowledge of the legal and regulatory environment into which engineering capability and disciplines operate and function
Broad awareness of the commercial and business environment in which the Sector operates
