Job Summary

We are looking for a software engineer to join our Field Support team focused on providing timely and high-quality solutions to the toughest and most urgent software issues affecting our customers.

This entry-level position is an excellent opportunity to learn new technologies and gain software development experience.

Major Responsibilities

* Participate in triage meetings where reports of issues occurring in the field are reviewed, assessed and assigned for resolution.
* Identify the root cause of software field issues by analyzing aircraft logs, reproducing and troubleshooting the issues in the lab, or coordinating remote troubleshooting sessions with field engineers.
* Design, implement and test solutions to resolve or mitigate field issues. Solutions may include software patches, configuration/content changes, and/or instructions to the aircraft cabin or maintenance crew.
* Perform code reviews of your software fix with the development team responsible for the associated software component or feature, and ensure that the defect is eliminated from all future software deliveries.
* Coordinate the release and deployment of the solutions to the impacted customer programs.
* Take part in the post-mortem process, by documenting lessons learned and recommending improvements in process, system/software requirements, design, implementation, test, etc.
* Partner with development teams and other product support teams to enhance collaboration and knowledge transfer.
* Answer technical questions and write technical articles related to your area of expertise (e.g. FAQ’s, wiki’s, how-to’s).

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

* Must-have’s:
* Basic knowledge of C and/or C++ programming language.
* Basic understanding of IP networks and related protocols.
* Some experience with the Linux O/S environment and shell.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Outstanding analytical and problem-solving skills.

* Nice-to-have’s:
* Experience with object-oriented programming, multi-threaded programming, socket programming.
* Knowledge of Python, PHP, Java, JavaScript, Node.js, Qt.
* Experience developing Android or iOS applications.
* Knowledge of SQL (e.g. MySQL, MariaDB, SQLite) and NoSQL (e.g. MongoDB) databases and languages.
* Experience modifying the Linux O/S (e.g. configuring the kernel, modifying kernel drivers, configuring system services).
* Experience developing audio/video streaming and playback applications.
* Knowledge of WiFi and wireless telephony systems and protocols (e.g. 802.11, GSM, UMTS, LTE)
* Knowledge of satellite systems, in particular Inmarsat and Panasonic solutions.
* Ability to read hardware schematics and to operate a spectrum analyzer.

Education/Experience Requirements

* Bachelor of Science Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related engineering degree. Advanced degree is preferred.
* 0-3 years of hands-on software development experience.
* IFE and/or Avionics industry experience is preferred.

Other requirements:

* Ability to travel to domestic or international locations on short notice, up to 5% of the time.
