Crane Aerospace & Electronics is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support product development in our Cabin Systems Engineering Team in Burbank, CA.

The Cabin Systems group designs and builds components for commercial airlines and business jets. Our products include electromechanical seat actuators and peripheral device controllers for first and business class cabins, hydraulic/gas locks for economy class cabins, and others in the cabin interiors space. We operate in a cost competitive market place so be prepared to think out of the box. Reliability is also paramount because when a seat goes down, airlines lose revenue. Customers come to us for our technical expertise during development and attentiveness to support products when they are fielded.

Candidates local to the greater Burbank area are highly desired. However, relocation assistance may be considered for exceptional candidates.

Mechanical Engineer Job Summary:

The Mechanical Engineer works on new product designs, modernization, and upgrades, as well as performs extensive analyses to ensure cost, quality, and customer requirements. The Mechanical Engineer also uses computer-assisted engineering and design software and equipment to perform daily assignments, applying principles of science and mathematics to develop economical solutions to technical problems.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities:

* Estimate and maintain effective control of project schedule and budget in relation to product development
* Work effectively with all functional groups to achieve product performance and cost targets
* Provide instruction, guidance, oversight and/or support to other personnel and/or disciplines supporting program objectives through utilization of engineering orders, test procedures, purchase requisitions, correspondence and other effective means
* Provide proposal support through requirements definition
* Generate models and conduct analyses that are in compliance with customer requirements and appropriate agencies
* Develop test procedures to ensure high reliability and support testing activities
* Build quality and manufacturability into the design
* Performs reliability and Failure Modes and Effects analyses
* Conduct failure analysis examinations and prepare Failure Analysis Reports (FAR) of finding
* Support the Material Review Board (MRB) in the assessment and disposition of non-conforming material
* Transition product to production
* Generate and review documentation related to product development and prepare technical reports and documentation necessary to satisfy customer and program requirements, including proposals, procedures, reports, correspondence, etc.

Engineering Competencies:

* Statics & Dynamics
* Design of Mechanical Components
* Gear and Bearing Design
* Vibration; Stress and Strain
* Plating, Coatings, & Heat Treating
* Strength of Materials
* Tolerance Analysis
* ANSI Y14.5 standards
* Knowledge of electronics packaging is a plus

Education & Skill Requirements:

* BS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics or related field
* 4+ years of relevant work experience
* Proficiency with SOLIDWORKS
* Finite Element Analysis (Ansys preferred)
* Self-directed/motivated and able to work and communicate well within a team that consists of Engineering, Manufacturing, and other disciplines
* Ability to effectively communicate in presentations, analyses, and reports
* Demonstrated ability to plan and accomplish goals based on experience and judgment

Eligibility Requirement:

* Applicants selected could be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet the eligibility requirements for access to classified information
* Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident and not require Visa sponsorship to be eligible. Because we contract with the US Department of Defense we are bound by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

* Standard office environment
* Work requires substantial visual concentration on detail
* Working conditions are normal for a manufacturing environment
* Manufacturing operations may require the use of safety equipment to include but not limited to: eye safety glasses, gowning, masks, hearing protectors, heel/wrist straps and any other required PPE
* May be exposed to unusual environmental conditions such as loud noises, cold temperatures, confined spaces, dust or fumes
