Materials Engineer

Job Description:

To support the production of Rotor Blades and Dynamic Components manufactured in DCC Yeovil to help achieve deliveries on time and to cost. To provide technical materials and processing expertise to support the other functions within the department and its supply chain.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical Subject Matter Expertise (SME) on materials and processes relevant to DCC and its sub-contractors in order to aid and improve production.
  • Carry out routine process control and materials testing, and specimen preparation to support the DCC production build schedule. Assess results and approve as acceptable/unacceptable against technical document requirements.
  • Carry out component offcut analysis and assessment and approve the results as acceptable/unacceptable against technical document requirements.
  • Provide technical support to the Quality Manager DCC for non-conformance root cause analysis and subsequent elimination. Proactively implement techniques and problem solving tools to identify root cause, containment and corrective action plans to eliminate re-occurrence.
  • Attend DCC production meetings relevant to your areas of responsibility to ensure priorities are in line with DCC delivery schedules.
  • Carry out and document qualification of special processes used within DCC in accordance with the company instruction.
  • You are responsible for taking reasonable care of your own health and safety and that of others who may be affected by your acts or omissions at work and to co-operate with managers, supervisors and others to enable the company to meet its statutory obligations for health, safety and environment.

Skills and Responsibilities:

  • Qualified to Degree in Materials Science or Materials Engineering, Metallurgy, or a related Science or Engineering subject together with relevant experience or HNC/HND/BTEC and Apprenticeship with relevant experience.
  • In-depth specialist knowledge of composite material science, metallic surface treatments, engineering design and manufacturing technology
  • Practical experience of the manufacture and testing of composite and adhesive coupon specimens and writing of the subsequent technical reports.
  • High level of proven interpersonal skills, communication, good commercial judgement and effective negotiating skills.
  • A thorough understanding and experience of using PC applications, in particular Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
