The Opportunity | Manufacturing Engineering Manager
Manufacturing Engineering defines and works out how the product will be assembled on the production line including the enabling the right quantity of components/product are delivered to support the speed of the production requirements. Review efficiencies and eliminate waste within the manufacturing process. Deliver high quality products/components to clearly defined standards. The Manufacturing Engineering Manager leads all manufacturing engineering, encompassing capital and process development projects, providing superior technical knowledge. They will be responsible for providing leadership, hone outstanding people skills and management to a team of Manufacturing Engineers. Responsible for installation, maintenance and improvement of production lines, managing contractors and ensuring that Environmental, Health and Safety and Environmental requirements are not only met but surpassed. The role has full budgetary responsibility for the department. Implement and manage continuous improvement principals by highlighting deficiencies and driving changes in training, working practices and processes.

Your Challenge

* Strategy and Development

* Contribute to the creation and implementation of best practice production engineering; planning vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve operational performance

* Evaluates machining and assembly processes and identifies process improvements related to programming, fixturing, tooling and work methods.

* Coordinates all Farris sites and functional areas to develop the annual capital plan. Ensures that the capital plan is implemented and results are achieved.

* Identifies, implements and tracks operational cost savings initiatives.

* Implements machining, assembly, and test process improvements at Farris international facilities.

* Ensures that proper manufacturing documentation (programs, set-up sheets, work instructions) is updated and maintained.

* Leads projects and associated teams to justify and implement capital appropriations including tooling, machining, and assembly/test equipment.

* Implements, leads, participates and drives in Continuous Improvement methodologies.

* Coordinates with Quality & Supply Chain to detect, evaluate & eliminate quality issues and to reduce the cost of manufacturing.

* Lead, train & develop personnel to improve technical skills and competencies.

* Promotes a strong safety culture in Farris facilities.

* Financial Budget and Control

* Hold responsibility for departmental budget

* Responsible for achieving budget and forecast

Your Expertise

* 5+ years of experience in machining using CNC lathes and vertical/horizontal machining centers.

* BS in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing or Industrial Engineering required.

* MS or MBA preferred.

* Lean certification preferred

* Formal Engineering or Operations leadership experience.

* Experience with assembly and testing of pressure retaining components

* Demonstrated results related to cost savings initiatives and capital equipment implementation.

* Demonstrated project management skills

* Experienced in Lean/Continuous Improvement tools including 5S, set-up reduction, value stream mapping and CEDAC.

* Lean Manufacturing techniques such as:

* Must have great communication skills and be a team player

* Ability to work on a variety of technical problems of diverse scope and complexity where analysis and evaluation of various outcomes require tradeoffs

* Solve a wide range of difficult problems and evaluate alternative solutions that may require coordination across multiple teams.

* Experience with tool & fixture design using 3D CAD and CAM.

* PC skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office products is required.

* Knowledge of OSHA requirements in a manufacturing environment is a PLUS.

* ERP Business System familiarity including LN, BaaN, SAP, or Oracle.

* 10% travel to other Farris and Curtiss-Wright locations (including international sites).
