Manager Optical Coating Engineering

Position Description:

Manage all engineering activities associated with the design, development, deposition, and measurement of ZYGO’s optical thin-film coatings.

Plan and implement project proposals that include multilayer coating design and optimization, substrate cleaning, deposition process development and continuous improvement efforts, coating metrology, and related tooling and equipment engineering.
Responsible for the direct supervision of engineers and technicians at two sites (Middlefield, CT and Richmond, CA).

Collaborate with Sales and customers on new project and program proposals.

Work closely with Operations and Quality on thin-film coating production plans that include the utilization of internal and/or external manufacturing capabilities.

Communicate with Management as a subject matter expert by defining required capabilities and providing technology road-maps to support new opportunities.

Responsible for routine communication with internal and external customers on projects, operational decisions, scheduling requirements, and contractual clarifications.

Position Requirements:

B.S. degree in Engineering, Physics, Optics, or Math plus a minimum of 10 years of related industry experience.

Qualified candidates will have a proven track record in the design and development of optical thin-film coatings in the UV, Visible and IR spectral regions.

Proficient with optical thin-film design software such as TFCalc, OptiLayer, or FilmStar.

Highly desired experiences include thin-film manufacturing cost analysis, laser-induced damage threshold testing, group delay dispersion metrology, ring down loss measurements, ellipsometry, long-throw sputtering, and chemical vapor deposition.

Must be a team player with excellent communication and presentation skills.
