Description

Reporting to the Head, Industry Architecture, the incumbent will be responsible for managing technology aspects of standards development activities (Airline Industry Data Model, Reference Communication Model) that will provide the foundation and integration layer for all future IATA messaging standards in the Passenger Services area (reservation, distribution, ticket, passenger data for governments, schedules, slots and airport handling).

This role requires a holistic approach from detailed understanding of specific aspects of messaging technologies, to ensuring consistent level of quality of business requirements documentation and modeling by industry working groups, to building industry awareness of technology-related aspects of standards development; to identifying new commercial and training opportunities.

This role is being created to cover for a long term absence of the current incumbent.

Responsibilities

Strategy/ Industry Architecture: Maintains selected components of a technology roadmap required to migrate from legacy to modern data exchange technologies.

Transformational Projects: Supports key industry initiatives: Responsible for managing the relationship with selected transformational projects and related standards development activities to ensure each projects follows established message development methodology and leverages all available opportunities to ensure that the strategic project integrate within an established industry roadmap.

Integration and Interoperability: Plays a vital role providing support, guidance and advice to selected industry working groups developing new messaging standards, supports the groups in their effort to analyze and understand the impact of the changes managed/envisaged by on the interoperability with a specific focus on business process integration, data and technology interoperability. As required, the incumbent may lead or support with training or hands-on assistance specific modeling or technology-related activities in support of projects that our Members have requested (e.g. from StB, NDC, One Order, Travel Communications, One Identity).

Modern Technologies: Acts as a subject matter expert on modeling and the use of communications protocols to support various business use cases. Leverages subject matter expertize to lead or actively contributes to development of best practices and methodologies related to the development of new messaging standards (AIDM methodology) and coordination of the use of communication protocols (e.g. REST/JSON, open APIs, digital security, directory services).

Stakeholder Management: Maintains strong relationship with leaders of Working Groups developing requirements for new messages by guiding them through the approach, methodology, planning of work & resources, coaching relevant members to use the tools, environment, guidelines and providing hands on support. Maintains relationship with senior managers of key vendors of product and services critical to IATA technology standards.

Airline Industry Data Model/Methodology: Owns agreed parts of the Reference Communication Model (RCM) or Airline Industry Data Model (AIDM) and actively contributes in development of associated methodology such as business modeling and docimentation of non functional requirements. Drives the integration of the core content of the AIDM including the anchor model, core objects and Glossary of Terms and the introduction of JSON/REST framework in the AIDM. Participates in modeling shared objects and key processes leveraging cross-domain perspective. Creates examples to imitate, tackle issues and escalates if needed, contributes to creating positive image of IATA Data Model methodology and RCM;

Products: Identifies training and publication opportunities to help the industry make full use of the new Airline Industry Data Model and the Reference Communication Model. Provides timely input for IATA publications and other products leveraging the models developed in this area of IATA activities. Designs and leads training session related to subject matter expertize.

Virtual Team: Leads virtual project teams and task forces of IATA and industry participants supporting a wide internal and external network of stakeholders delivering data exchange standards and coordinating the deployment of new communication protocols in industry data exchanges. If applicable, oversees the delivery of Data Model Administration Service or otehr 3rd party service provider;

Passenger and Data Interchanges Standards Board (PADIS): Acts as a secretary to selected PADIS working groups delivering technical messaging specifications and similar specifications to support a wide range of business functions and transformational projects led by other committees and working groups (NDC, OO, Baggage, loads control, data provide to governments).

Qualifications and Skills

University degree, preferably in Computer Sciences or similar discipline with at least five years of experience with an airline or system provider;
Result-oriented, strong project management and leadership skills and a drive to deliver complex business standards in support of major transformational change;
Practical hands on experience with data and/or business modeling is a must, expertise in UML, XML, JSON, APIs and web services is desirable;
Excellent planning skills; able to manage multiple disparate stakeholder expectations and able to consolidate the outcomes to deliver new messaging standards;
Ability to think “out of the box” and challenge current ways of working in order to drive continuous process improvement;
Excellent oral and written communication skills in English, knowledge of other language would be an asset;
Strong commitment to customer service;
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to interact with senior stakeholders and working groups;
Ability to remain focused on the required deliverables;
Ability to take a holistic approach to the task, assimilating new areas and types of activities quickly;
Passionate in sharing the knowledge and enabling working groups to achieve their objectives;
Ability to travel and work to tight deadlines;
