Position Purpose:

The Simulator Maintenance Technician III is responsible for providing guidance and training to all aircrew training system maintenance personnel in the maintenance and operation of flight simulators, cockpit procedures trainers, part task trainers, and associated equipment; and assisting maintenance personnel in solving difficult equipment malfunctions.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

* In the absence of a Manager, directs and monitors all activities of maintenance technicians on assigned shift.

* Assists the Maintenance Manager with the formulation of work plans and schedules. Also, coordinates training of maintenance personnel; and assists in developing and monitoring scheduled and unscheduled maintenance, test, and alignment procedures.

* Conducts formal classroom and on-the-job training for Aircrew Training System (ATS) maintenance personnel on the theory, maintenance, operation, repair, inspection, assembly and installation of flight simulators, cockpit procedure trainers, and computer based training systems. This equipment includes digital computers, motion systems, visual systems, and special test equipment.

* Presents training material in sufficient detail to allow simulator maintenance technician trainees to become proficient in circuit analysis, troubleshooting, and correcting malfunctions in all aircrew training device systems.

* Demonstrates proper system test and calibration techniques/procedures utilizing manufacturers’ specifications and/or applicable aircraft operating manuals, in order that maximum fidelity of the simulation equipment is maintained.

* Display ability to repair, overhaul, rebuild, align, and adjust complete multi-systems.

* Demonstrate and apply comprehensive knowledge of all major units of the complete multi-system to achieve operating specifications.

* Demonstrate working knowledge of basic aerodynamics, radio navigation, and other aircraft-related systems.

* Possess and maintain extensive practical knowledge of the theories and practices of electronic circuits, computer theory, hydraulic or pneumatic control and power systems, and many other areas covering a wide range of system applications.

* Possess a basic knowledge of mathematics, including trigonometry, to calculate power relationships, signal phasing, etc.

* Display ability to interpret drawings for multi-system complexes.

* Identify and isolate malfunctions of complete multiple integrated systems and determine the methods of repair.

* Currently possess, or demonstrate the ability to obtain, a SECRET clearance.

Education or Formal Training:

High School diploma or equivalent and completion of a civilian or military basic electronics program are required. BSEE or BSME degree is highly desired.

Experience:

* Three to five years’ experience as a Flight Simulator Technician or equivalent is desired, with a demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex non-routine problems on flight simulation equipment, including digital and analog hardware, and motion systems.

* Experience in conducting practical training in checking, repairing, and calibrating critical solid-state devices is required.
