Description

The Head, ATM Infrastructure, Europe will be a member of the Regional Safety and Flight Operations (SFO) team and report to Regional Director, SFO, Europe. He or she will be accountable for leading the Air Traffic Management (ATM) domain within the European Region. The role will lead IATA’s dialogue to progress airline interests associated with the European Union (EU) Single Market initiative; Single European Sky (SES). Activities will cover all aspects of ATM, including addressing institutional, regulatory and operational performance with a focus on the safety, environment, capacity and cost efficiency of air navigation services across 42 European States inclusive of the EU 28+2 Member States.
The incumbent will lead a small team of experts to develop, implement and advocate strategies to improve European ATM services and infrastructure. Stakeholders for the role span both senior leadership and operational levels within our airline members as well as State and European institutions, authorities, associations and service providers.
Although the position is based in Madrid, a frequent presence in Brussels will be required.

Responsibilities

Lead the development and sustain collaborative relationships with senior air transport leaders and policy makers within government, service providers and European intuitions
Develop in consultation with IATA members the strategic direction for the modernization of ATM within Europe ensuring any related Board Performance Measures are achieved.
Oversee the development, implementation and advocacy of a broad range of regulatory, financial and operational initiatives to realize timely progress towards the agreed strategy.
Lead the IATA engagement with State and European level institutions on costs and charges for air navigation services ensuring adequate contribution to the Board Performance Measure.
Establish strong relationships within IATA and our member airlines to generate genuine buy-in for European ATM modernization.
Initiate and manage a range of projects as needed to ensure appropriate resource capacity and capability is available to support the European ATM modernization strategy.

Qualifications and Skills

Minimum 15 years’ experience in the Air Traffic Management/ Air Navigation Service domain including significant experience in managerial leadership roles
Minimum 5 years’ experience leading advocacy in diverse multi-stakeholder environments preferably within the air transport sector
High degree of financial literacy
High level organizational and planning skills including project management experience
Experience in international multicultural environments
Excellent communication and negotiation skills
Team management and leadership skills
A self-starter approach with ability to proactively engage with stakeholders and progress work goals
Fluent in both written and spoken English. Knowledge of French and/or German languages would be an asset.
Preferably good knowledge of IATA
