Description
Position Purpose:
Under general supervision, performs a variety of tasks involved in the grounds and plant maintenance area.
Essential Functions:
* Maintains grounds by picking up trash, sweeping and maintaining the garden shop.
* Checks maintenance areas daily.
* Performs yard maintenance by mowing, edging, fertilizing, spraying, weed eating, pruning and trimming trees/shrubs as well as planting them.
* Operates and maintains irrigation systems.
* Maintains grounds in inclement weather by plowing/shoveling snow in lots and drives including the removal of debris.
Other Functions:
* Assists with duties outside department assignments.
Materials and Equipment Used:
* Will be expected to use equipment such as mowers, trimmers, sprayers, snow removal equipment, etc.
Working Environment / Physical Activities:
* Work is routinely outside with exposure to all seasonal temperature changes.
* Will be exposed to chemicals for grounds upkeep and pest control.
* Will be exposed to rotating equipment.
* Will be expected to do physical labor, including the routine lifting of materials weighing 50 lbs. or more.
Qualifications
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
* Ability to communicate with others in written and verbal format.
* Ability to learn to maintain yard maintenance equipment and irrigation systems.
* Ability to establish priorities and meet deadlines.
Education or Formal Training:
* High school diploma or equivalent.
* Must have a valid drivers license and must be at least 18 years of age.
