Garmin AT, located in Salem, OR, is seeking a Flight Test Pilot to flight test and certify avionics systems installations in FAR (Federal Aviation Regulations) 23 and 25 aircraft. Define and execute ground and flight tests necessary to develop and certify Garmin avionics systems. Assist in the development of design and certification documentation in support of the development and certification of avionics systems. Coordinate with other Garmin Aircraft Certification staff and FAA Aircraft Certification Office to assure system certification.

Other key responsibilities include:

Act as pilot in command of aircraft for the purpose of conducting development and certification flight test of Garmin avionics

*
Able to operate data collection systems and post process flight test data

*
May act as Flight Test Project Lead

*
Create and execute development/certification bench, ground and flight test plans

*
Create test reports and other compliance data

*
Understands and is able to maintain basic test aircraft configurations

*
Identifies issues during flight test and verifies that issues identified during flight test are resolved.

*
Provides reliable solutions to a variety of problems using sound problem solving techniques

*
Leverages understanding of operational characteristics of the system under development/test to contribute to system design

*
Create and review system level requirements documents and aircraft certification documentation, including certification plans, data, and reports

*
Analyze regulatory and safety aspects of new avionics systems including installation and operation

*
Assist in the development of Fault Hazard Analysis and System Safety Analysis documentation in support of aircraft certification projects

*
Define applicable regulations and provide guidance related to cockpit human factors and all other aspects of avionics performance and operation

*
Assist in the preparation and verification of new avionics installation documentation, operations manuals, training material, and other certification documents

*
Leverages understanding of certification process and associated regulations in review of certification plans for basic certification projects

*
Offers suggestions to improve processes and the safety of the flight test Organization:
*
May act as certification lead or project manager for assigned projects Communicate and facilitate with FAA/ACO (Federal Aviation Administration / Aircraft Certification Office) and FAA/MIDO (Federal Aviation Administration / Manufacturing Inspection District Office) and proactively seek resolution of issues

Qualifications

Qualified candidates possess a Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, or Aerospace Engineering or Science from a four-year college or university AND a minimum of one year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience and

Commercial Pilot Certificate - Airplane Single & Multi-Engine Land

2nd Class FAA Medical Certificate

Minimum of 1,000 hrs. total flight time

Demonstrates basic understanding of certification processes and associated regulations

Previous experience using advanced avionic

Preferred qualifications include:

* Previous experience using Garmin aviation products
* Previous experience with the FAA certification process (TC/STC) applicable to avionics
* FAA DER/ODA Flight Test Pilot authorization
* Previous experience in systems engineering or software development
* Superior academics (cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.5)
* Rotorcraft/Helicopter pilot certification
