Overview

The Cal-Ore Flight Nurse provides customer oriented high quality patient care, in a safe and efficient manner. In every situation the Flight Nurse does what is right for the patient based on a thorough assessment and implantation of protocols, SOP’s and appropriate care.

Responsibilities

* Assists primary flight nurse and performs functions within legal scope of practice of licensure.
* Assists with all aspects of patient care during transport.
* Demonstrates competency in using all aero medical equipment aboard aircraft.
* Demonstrates knowledge of company policies, transport protocols and emergency interventions.
* Reports to the hospital to assist with the preparation of the patient for transport.
* Responsible for obtaining all necessary transport equipment required for the preparation of the patient.
* Responsible for confirming all necessary transport paperwork prior to transport, and for transporting the medical records and imaging studies to the receiving facility.
* Completes preflight checklist prior to take-off, before arrival of patient.
* Countersigns all narcotics administered during transport and narcotic count on return.
* Responsible for ensuring that all equipment used for an air ambulance mission is returned from the mission, cleaned, restocked, and properly stored.
* Responsible for cleaning and restocking the aircraft upon return from an air ambulance mission.
* Responsible for completion of the billing sheet and for seeing that the entire medical record is complete on return to home base.
* Responsible for assisting the pilot in maintaining wakefulness during night flight legs.
* Attends flight training based on AAMS (ASHBEAMS) curriculum.
* Attends all mandatory aero medical training sessions and staff meetings.
* Must maintain the licensing and recency of experience standards required by all governmental and CAMTS agencies.
* Other duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the discretion of management, either orally or in writing.

Qualifications

Qualifications

* Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
* Current unrestricted RN license in Orgegon and California.
* Minimum of three (3) years of emergency and/ or critical care experience (>1 year of adult ICU preferred).
* PICU, NICU and CCT experience desirable.
* Current Certifications:

o AHA or ASHI Basic Life Support (BLS)

o AHA or ASHI Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

o AHA or ASHI Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), ACEP Advanced Pediatric Life Support (APLS), or ENA Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course

o AAP Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)

Approved trauma certification required within six (6) months of hire:

Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support with Advanced Skills Pack (internal course)

Transport Nurse Advanced Trauma Course (TNATC. Speak with Clinical Base manager prior to class).

ACS Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS)/ATLS Audit or ATCN (For nurses only. Speak with Clinical Base Manager prior to class).

Transport Provider Advanced Trauma Course (TPATC) Speak with Clinical Base manager prior to class).

* National Certification desirable upon application but required within one (1) year of hire: CEN, CCRN, CFRN, RN-C

Requirements

* Excellent customer service skills.
* Ability to communicate professionally, effectively and persuasively.
* Ability to maintain composure under pressure, works efficiently and accurately with frequent interruptions, able to triage multiple priorities.
* Maintains a positive team attitude and cohesive working relationship with Nurses, Paramedics, Pilots, Maintenance Technicians, Communication Specialists and all other supporting departments.
* Works independently and manages high stress levels while maintaining a good rapport with coworkers.
* Maintains ongoing knowledge of relevant aviation protocols and policies.

Work Schedule: The maintain Part-Time Status at Cal-Ore, flight crewmembers must work at least 10 rotating 24-hour shifts per month. Sometimes a flight shift may extend past 24 hours. Must be available for one (1) on-call shift in a four (4) week period.

Reporting Relationship: Flight Nurse reports directly to the General Manager and indirectly to the Clinical Educator.
