Job Role:
The aim of the sponsorship programme is to assist the successful individual to achieve the Flight Instructor Rating and secure full-time employment with ACS Flight Training as a Flight Instructor. It allows candidates who would otherwise struggle to fund the course some assistance with fees, but also with encouraging people to enter the instructional career path.
There is a worldwide shortage of Flight Instructors and so this opportunity which allows the successful applicant to be offered a three-year contract as a Flight Instructor with ACS Flight Training. The school teaches most aspects of flight training, from trial lessons and PPL (A) through night, multi-engine, commercial pilots licence, instrument (restricted) and instrument ratings. Full-time instructors can expect to fly in the region of 500-600 hours per year in an environment where every student is treated as an individual so that they can reach their potential.
Initially, successful applicants will teach the PPL (A) but opportunities may be given for the addition of night, instrument and further instructional qualifications.
The sponsorship is open to both Commercial Pilot Licence and Private Pilot Licence holders. All candidates should ensure that they have the necessary pre-entry requirements listed below prior to application to avoid disappointment.
Application Process
The application process has three stages:
1. CV and cover letter.
2. Interview
3. Pre-course entry assessment – Flight Test

Those candidates successful at the application stage will be called for an interview at ACS Flight Training. Candidates who pass the interview process will then be invited back to undertake the FI course pre-entry test which is an EASA requirement. Those successful at this stage will be offered sponsorship and employment. Any expenses incurred to travel for interview or assessment, as well as those incurred as living or travel expenses whilst on the course will not be covered by ACS Flight Training.
Funding
The FI course will be funded by ACS Flight Training in return for a 3 year full time employment commitment. The FI candidate must sign a 3 year training bond for the cost of the FI rating. If the individual resigns during the three-year period, the balance of the outstanding bond will be recovered from the individual. Details of which can be discussed with the successful applicants.
Pre-entry Requirements
Applicants must have the right to live and work in the United Kingdom.
Commercial Pilot Licence Holders CPL(A)
-Hold a valid CPL
-5 hours flight time in single-engine piston aircraft in the 6 months prior to course start -Completed a VFR flight as PIC of at least 540 km (300 nm) during the course of which full stop landings at 2 different aerodromes were made in a 24 hour period
-Completed 20 hours of VFR cross country flight as PIC on single-engine piston aircraft -Have received at least 10 hours of instrument flight instruction on single-engine piston aircraft
-Successfully complete a pre-entry flight assessment with an FIC instructor (this may be completed as part of the application process if required)
Private Pilot Licence Holders PPL(A)
-Hold a valid PPL
-200 hours of flight time on aeroplanes of which
-30 hours on single engine piston aircraft of which
-5 hours in the 6 months prior to course start
-CPL or ATPL knowledge examination*
-Completed a VFR flight as PIC of at least 540 km (300 nm) during the course of which full stop landings at 2 different aerodromes were made in a 24 hour period
-Completed 20 hours of VFR cross country flight as PIC on single-engine piston aircraft -Have received at least 10 hours of instrument flight instruction on single-engine piston aircraft
-Successfully complete a pre-entry flight assessment with an FIC instructor (this may be completed as part of the application process if required)
* please note that this is in addition to the current EASA requirements
Employment Particulars
Successful candidates will be employed on a full-time basis by ACS Flight Training. This entails a fixed roster of five days per week which may not necessarily be consecutive and which will include some weekend working. Instructors are entitled to 28 days paid holiday per annum. This is inclusive of Bank Holidays which are usually required to be worked if they fall on a usual rostered work day.
