The Product Development/Engineering Department at Bombardier Toronto has an immediate opening for a Flight Test Engineer (FTE). This position reports to the Toronto Flight Operations & Flight Test Department. The role requires the FTE to plan, execute tests and report results to either the Toronto Bombardier Business Aircraft (BA) and/or Commercial Aircraft (CA) Product Development Teams. Testing is carried out on the Bombardier Global and Dash8-Q400 aircraft product line. This position also offers opportunities to conduct tests on new product development and/or legacy program aircraft as well. All testing that is carried out on our products are primarily related to product obsolescence and/or enhancement certification, but testing may also involve problem solving in the areas of continued airworthiness and resolution of in-service issues.

In your role, you will:

- Operate under the day-to-day authority/supervision of a Senior and/or Lead Flight Test Engineer.
- Interact or collaborate with key stakeholders within Product Development (i.e. System Engineering, Flight Sciences, and Business Unit Project personnel) on test planning and definition.
- Coordinate, chair and facilitate the following reviews/briefings: Test Readiness; SOF (Safety of Flight) and THA (Test Hazard Analysis); and Pre- & Post-flight briefing.
- Create flight test schedules, test and reporting documentation (e.g. TDS (Test Definition Sheets), Test Cards, Flight Test Reports, etc.) that is consistent with approved Bombardier Flight Test Center (BFTC) standards.
- Observe/Adhere to: (i) BFTC, FAA (Federal Aviation Authorities) and TC (Transport Canada) rules and regulations for flight test, (ii) proper use of safety and risk mitigation methods, and (iii) test equipment operating procedures and limitations.
- Provide oversight on aircraft configuration and ensure conformity is appropriate and/or applicable for test (i.e. component level, test instrumentation, etc.).
- Carry-out testing onboard a Flight Test Vehicle (FTV), modified production aircraft and Systems Integrated Test Stand (SITS) or test rigs.
- Operate onboard flight test DAS (Data Acquisition System) and/or mission specific test equipment.
- Provide critical data to flight crew as it relates to the test being performed (i.e. test limitations (e.g. go/no go parameters, “knock-it-off” or abort test criteria, etc.), restrictions and/or special instructions.
- Work closely with the Bombardier Flight Test Center – Wichita, KS, USA.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

As our ideal candidate,

- You hold an Engineering Degree or equivalent.
- You have a minimum 7-10 years of experience in one of the following engineering disciplines: Aircraft System design and/or Flight Sciences (i.e. aircraft Stability & Control, Performance, Loads and Dynamics, Acoustics).
- You have a minimum 5 years of flight test experience, preferably participated in a major new development certification flight test program.
- You have an understanding of flight test practices and principles.
- You have an understanding of civil aircraft certification requirements.

- You are able to travel for the purposes of conducting flight tests for short and extended periods of time (e.g. 1 week to several weeks, sometimes on short notice); domestic and international travel.
- You are able to obtain an aviation medical (i.e. Transport Canada Aviation Medical (Level - CAT 3).
- You are able to obtain an Industry Canada Radio Proficiency Certificate.
