Job Description

Summary Statement:

Develops and provides engineering solutions for the overhaul and repair of military aircraft structural components, requiring a sound knowledge of the principles, theories, and concepts that are consistent with government regulations. Technical foundation to perform approvals of single and multi-use repair packages, and manage product center workflow and schedules. Manage projects and special assignments with little to no supervision. May function as a team lead for less experienced engineers.

Essential Functions and Key Responsibilities:

Reviews damage reports to develop repair schemes, authors work instructions, and performs the stress analysis and substantiation supporting the repair with no supervision. Repair development and substantiation will include a variety of analysis methods and require an established knowledge of mechanically fastened metallic structure and adhesively bonded metallic and composite structure. Experience performing analysis with Nastran/Patran, as well as Mathcad is a plus.

Established knowledge of, and ability to apply repair analysis techniques such as Boeing Structures I and II, ABARIS/Laminate Plate Theory, Bruhn, Flabel, etc. Develops and substantiates complex repair schemes with no supervision.

Working knowledge of military aircraft regulations and documents, AYBs, AYCs, etc. General aviation authority knowledge such as FAA and EASA is a plus.

Performs technical review and approval of less experienced engineer’s repair packages.

Mentoring less experienced engineers, co-ops, and interns and may be responsible leading direct reports.

Manages projects and/or product centers with little to no supervision.

Develop and/or peer review multi-use repair specifications, drawings, and engineering reports.

Review and interpret technical documents such as Drawings, Structural Repair Manuals (SRMs), Illustrated Parts Lists (IPLs/IPCs), Material Specifications, Process Specifications, etc.

Communicate and interact with customer engineering for repair development support and approvals of developed repair schemes.

Troubleshoot failure modes and interact with shop mechanics to develop cost effective repairs that are feasible to accomplish in a timely manner that supports production schedule.

Above average verbal and written skills, ability to tailor communication to technical and non-technical audiences.

Ancillary Job Functions and Responsibilities:

This position may provide administrative and technical leadership over other Stakeholders in the department. Perform other duties as required. These duties may include assignments in job classifications other than the primary assignment.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS: AEROSPACE ENGINEER - STRUCTURES SENIOR

Formal Education, Training, Professional Certification and Work Experience:
Bachelor degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering from an accredited four-year college or university, and 5 or more (5+) years related experience and/or training. Graduate level education is a plus.

Experience with Boeing platforms preferred, as is experience with Patran/Nastran.

Level of Supervision Required:
Works under very general supervision. Sound judgment, completeness and accuracy are expected. Exercises latitude in determining activities and approaches to completing assignments.

Standard Job Requirements:

Special Job Requirements:

* Must be able to obtain Secret Clearance, active clearance is a plus.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the Stakeholder is regularly required to sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk and hear. The Stakeholder frequently is required to move from one place to another and reach with hands and arms. The Stakeholder must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus. Travel between facilities. Must be able to work in excess of eight (8) hours per day and five (5) days per week, if required. NRD: Must be able to ascend and descend stairs.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the stakeholder is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Mental Requirements:
Able to work as a team member, highly organized, work well under stress and handle multiple priorities. Must possess interpersonal and communication skills to interact with other people inside and outside the company.
