Kaman Automation is seeking an experienced Design Engineer to join our team in Plano, TX. As the Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the management and execution of Engineering Services Group (ESG) hardware design engineering projects through effective project planning, design and development and a clear methodology to safety and quality.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

* Execute hardware designs to ensure all projects are delivered on-time, within scope and within budget.
* Apply electrical and mechanical design and engineering best practices during the creation of complex mechanical drawings, parts and assemblies which meet system-level design requirements
* Create part bill of material for customer review and manufacturing
* Manage and maintain 3D component libraries
* Assist with the procurement, build and test of mechanical parts and electromechanical assemblies
* Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility.
* Manage changes to the project scope, project schedule, and project costs using appropriate verification techniques. .
* Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation in accordance with the Kaman ISO-9001 requirements.
* Support the development of scopes of work, estimates and proposals in conjunction with the applications/proposals group.
* Work independently on design tasks to lead the electromechanical hardware design.
* Review customer specifications.
* Support/initiate product design reviews
* Develop schematics and drawings to support fabrication
* Consult with software engineers for hardware and software integration
* Working knowledge of American Society of Mechanical Engineering (ASME) Y14 and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) standards

Qualifications

Education:

* Associates/Bachelor’s degree in Electrical/Mechanical or Electromechanical Engineering or related field of study is required

Experience:

* At least four to five years of successful engineering experience in industrial automation or related field.
* Knowledge of electro-mechanical design, writing specifications, developing test procedures, and close tolerance requirements.
* Experience with the design and development of extremely detailed mechanical and electrical systems.
* At least four to five years of hands on electrical design experience including hardware design, PLC/HMI experience and systems design.
* Experience with AutoCAD Electrical or SolidWorks 3D modeling, 2D drawings.
* Solid technical experience with understanding and/or hands-on experience in value-add engineering.
* Knowledge and practical application of NEC70/NFPA70 electric code and NFPA79 along with relevant safety risk mitigation using ISO13894/RIA 15.06 and newer standards.

Skills:

* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Solid AutoCad/AutoCad Electrical experience
* Strong SolidWorks experience.
* Solid organization skills including attention to detail and multi-tasking skills.
* Manage multiple projects at the same time.
* Ability to build and develop teams to execute solution projects.
* Superior negotiation and problem solving skills.
* Excellent client facing and internal communication skills.

Physical/Environmental Demands:

* Must be able to stand, walk, talk, hear and sit for a majority of the time.
* Use of hands and arms to touch, lift, reach, type, etc.
* Lifting and/or exerting up to 10 lbs. of weight/force occasionally.
