Summary
The Data Scientist is responsible for efficiencies and optimization within Allegiant by implementing analytics and innovation through the development of descriptive, predictive, and prescriptive applications. This individual will discover, develop, maintain, execute, and support advanced analytics and data science products, research, and analyses within operational and commercial constraints. Works in close collaboration with various Allegiant business segments to develop innovative, highly effective data powered solutions by building inferential, predictive, and prescriptive models of which includes machine learning, AI, and other customized algorithms for efficiencies.

Minimum Requirements
Combination of Education and Experience will be considered. Must be authorized to work in the US as defined by the Immigration Act of 1986. Must pass a Criminal Background Check. Visa sponsorship is available for this position.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree
Education Other: Master’s Degree Or PhD from an accredited college/university in one or more of the following: Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Engineering, Bioinformatics, Econometrics, Physics, Operations Research or related field.
Years of Experience: Minimum two (2) years of experience in a technical environment.

Preferred Requirements
• Strong knowledge in one or more of the following fields: statistics, data mining, machine learning, simulation, operations research, econometrics, and/or information retrieval.
• Knowledge of the data science process and using machine learning algorithms including regression, classification, simulation, scenario analysis, modeling, clustering, decision trees and neural networks.
• Ability to stay and operate at the bleeding-edge of data science disciplines with the respective tools utilized.
• Knowledge in airline operations, customer interactions and/or inter-departmental limitations across business units.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, proven presentation skills to all levels of audience.
• Must embrace work load and be comfortable with a fast paced, dynamic work environment.
• Strong intellect and analytical aptitude required, along with ability to be self-driven.
• Demonstrated proficiency in Python, R, MATLAB, SQL or other programming languages or packages.
• Strong computer skills including but not limited to MS Office products.

Job Duties
• Analyze and model airline operations and/or customer data and implement algorithms to support analysis using advanced statistical, engineering, and mathematical methods from physics, machine learning, data mining, econometrics, and operations research.
• Translate advanced analytics problems into technical approaches that yield actionable recommendations, in diverse domains such as predictive maintenance, delay predictions/recovery and Allegiant products upselling/cross-selling; communicate results and educate stakeholders through insightful visualizations, reports and presentations.
• Retrieve, prepare, and process a rich variety of data sources from structured/unstructured cloud and non-cloud sources.
• Perform exploratory data analysis, generate and test working hypotheses, and uncover interesting trends and relationships.
• Strong initiative with superior analytical, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills, with a dedication to life-long learning and initiative to continually improve technical skill set.
• Leverage available research data to stay informed about industry related trends, potential disrupters, and competitive capabilities.
• Document various approaches and model metrics to seek iterative means of improvement.
• Understand the “cross-pollination” of technology/engineering/commercial verticals and be able to apply both areas of expertise and areas of knowledge to provide a cohesive end-to-end solution.

Office - While performing the duties of this job, the Team Member is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, see, reach, stoop, kneel, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer, key board, printer, and phone. May be required to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 20 lbs. May be required to work various shifts/days in a 24 hour situation. Regular attendance is a requirement of the role. Exposure to moderate noise (i.e. business office with computers, phones, printers, and foot traffic), temperature and light fluctuations. Ability to work in a confined area as well as the ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time. Some travel may be a requirement of the role.
