What the role is:

Reporting to the GM – Financial Accounting & Taxation, this role is focused on ensuring compliance with our taxation requirements surrounding Customs and Excise regulations and managing the relationship with the HMRC Officers in addition to other stakeholders. Acting as the key point of contact and maintaining / developing existing relationships with HMRC. You will be responsible for gathering, analysing, validating and submitting tax related information both within and outside the organisation.

What you’ll be doing will include:

Act as the point of contact with HMRC for customs and excise.

*

Support the “No Deal Brexit Team” as a key member.

*

Maintain and develop tax risk registers.

*

Responsible for maintaining knowledge of customs and excise regulations and how it would impact the business.

*

Create and submit the monthly Excise Return.

*

Ensure compliances with AWRS regulations.

*

Attend the outcomes of bond audits and assist with training needs specifically around customs and excise compliance.

*

Provide ad-hoc advice in real time to operations surrounding Customs and Excise procedures.

*

Support business units regarding queries on how they deal with situations to ensure compliance with HMRC regulations.

*

Provide training for operational staff to ensure consistency in the nationwide units and compliance with Customs and Excise regulations.

*

Overall responsibility for monitoring that units comply with EMCS movement closure within the limit of 5 days set by HMRC.

*

Review new projects that will possibly be implemented by the business for C&E implications.

*

Managing the internal process surrounding IPR on behalf of specific ALSG customers.

*

Assist in collation of IPR disposals for IPR to HMRC.

*

Assist in the preparation of the monthly Intrastat, which provides statistical information on movements between the UK and other EC member states.

*

Contribute in the management of import clearances, including supporting the management of duty saving schemes where applicable.

*

Support the continuous review of business activities and procedures to ensure that our tax compliance is maintained and that activities are carried out in an efficient and professional manner.

What you’ll have will include:

* In-depth knowledge and experience of Customs and Excise.
* In-depth knowledge of VAT is advantageous.
* Previous experience and comfortable working with different financial/operational systems.
* Good working knowledge of Customs Tariff and classification procedures for imported materials.
* Experience or exposure to the airline industry (ideal not essential).
* Strong communication skills and stakeholder management.
