The Assistant Financial Controller is a vital role within the Retail Finance team, responsible for monitoring, controlling and ensuring the integrity and accuracy of the gateretail profit and loss account, by ensuring the validity and accuracy of transactions posted to the Retail profit /cost centres.The role also works closely with the gateretail Senior Management Team (SMT) cost centre owners to support the planning and analysis for their respective areas, with a view to improving overall financial performance

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

* Review of postings to Retail profit centres to ensure validity and accuracy in relation to GL, profit & cost centre coding, currency and value

* Ensure Admin & RCoE (Retail Centre of Excellence) accounting is accurately reflected in the books of gateretail on a timely basis

* Manage the preparation of the Monthly Admin & RCoE P&L, including monthly cost tracker reports to cost centre owners, alongside monthly review meetings to support efforts to manage costs in line with budget

* Create the Budget for Admin and RCoE including analysis and explanations on variance to prior year, plus matching of Intercompany operating expenses with counterparts

* Manage the maintenance of the headcount submission and reporting for both permanent and temp staff by cost centre

* Oversee the day to day finance entries, month end close and reporting, budget, stat accounts and audit of one or more retail entities

* Oversee the ZBB (Zero-Based Budgeting) reporting - investigate and provide commentary on material variances on specified ZBB initiatives

* Oversee accruals for temporary staff and cash handling costs, including the recharge out of temporary staff costs

* Liaise with the SAP Accountant to maintain the customer profitability (COPA) table and ensure transactions are correctly coded to facilitate accurate COPA allocation and reconciliation

* Ensure alignment of SAP and BW for all Retail entities

* Maintain employee details and cost centres in Concur and Egencia portals, ensure new starters, leavers and role changes are reflected

* Manage and motivate a team of 2 – 3 Management Accountants

* Be a key contact point for both internal and external audit, in relation to the profit and loss account

* Provide ad-hoc assistance with other finance projects as and when required

* Provide insight and support on gateretail profit and loss account postings, to the wider Finance Team as and when required

* Foster a culture of continuous improvement of processes, models, forms and templates relating to the review and reporting of the gateretail profit and loss account

Qualifications:

Education:

* University degree educated, preferably finance related

* ACA/ACCA/CIMA qualified

Work Experience:

* Minimum of 3 years post qualification experience

* Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a finance analysis or reporting role, including profit and loss/balance sheet analysis and balance sheet reconciliations.

* Experience of managing a small finance team

* Advanced Excel user

* Experience with SAP and HFM is preferred.

* Exposure to multi-currency FX calculations desired

Other Skills: (Certification, Licenses and Registration)

* Excellent financial and analytical skills including experience creating complex excel spreadsheets

* Knowledge of SAP and HFM preferred

* Good working knowledge IFRS. Knowledge Swiss local GAAP is desirable

* Ability to interpret large amounts of financial data in a clear, concise and organised manner.

* Able to develop effective KPI monitoring tools and efficiently communicating results using supporting tables, graphs, and presentation quality materials.

* Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, solve problems, make recommendations, and draw valid conclusions in a timely and accurate manner.

* Must be able to effectively and professionally communicate with management and staff.

* Must demonstrate sound judgment and reasoning skills.

* Ability to prioritise and successfully manage multiple projects/deadlines simultaneously
