Description

The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is seeking an Airworthiness Coordinator to join the Air Unit Team. The Air Unit operate and manage an integrated fleet of aircraft for NERC research, survey and polar logistics, combining the airborne capabilities of ARSF (Airborne Research & Survey Facility) and BAS (British Antarctic Survey). We aim to execute a challenging programme of airborne science and logistics and to provide a worldwide capability that gives the environmental science community access to a range of aircraft platforms and instrumentation. The fleet comprises the five specially adapted aircraft (De Havilland Canada Dash 7 and four Twin Otters).

We are looking for an Airworthiness Coordinator to manage a number of computerised applications in support of the day-to-day operation of the Air Unit. You will be the main user of this system including tasks such as, but not limited to, updates, audits (error checking), Aircraft status print-outs, forecasting for maintenance and data analysis as required from the aircraft records system.

You will need background experience in database entry and be familiar with Microsoft products such as Word and Excel. You will need excellent attention to detail and be able to work independently. We are looking for someone with great team working teams to act as a central port of call for this team.

Purpose

The post is required to provide dedicated administration and data input support for Continuing Airworthiness (Overseas Territories Aviation Requirements 39) to maintain the Approval for OTAR 39.

The post holder is required to manage a number of computerised applications in support of the day-to-day operation of the Air Unit providing regular updated printouts for the Air Unit management team. This data will involve operational material from the Aircraft Tech Logs and data from the Engineers on parts removed and fitted to aircraft as well as the BAS stockholding of spares.

This Engineering data forms the basis for the subsequent production of maintenance forecasts for the contracted Engineering team at Rothera. It will also enable the Head of Aircraft Engineering in preparing maintenance packages for the summer maintenance of the Twin Otter aircraft.

Qualification

GCSE Maths and English.

Duties

1. To be responsible for operational and engineering data input to Computerised Application for Aircraft Maintenance (CAFAM).

2. To be the main user of the Computerised Application for Aircraft Maintenance (CAFAM). To include but not limited to, updates, audits (error checking), Aircraft status print-outs, forecasting for maintenance and data analysis as required from the aircraft records system.

3. Maintain electronic control of stores – Cambridge, Home Maintenance Base and Antarctic, to include tracking control (batch book) issues, receipts.

4. Purchasing orders to meet indent requirements.

5. Co-ordinate invoice and purchase order enquiries between the Air Unit and RCUK Shared Business Centre. Provide main point of contact with the Maintenance Providers regarding invoicing issues.

6. Storage and control of technical data records.

7. Assist with proof reading, editing and compiling of technical data and documentation, including task cards and dissemination of technical data.

8. Provide Administration assistance to the Air Unit Management Team and Pilots as required.

9. Manage a document control system for all Engineering associated manuals and systems.

10. Liaise with the Quality Assurance Manager, Head of Aircraft Engineering and Engineers with regards to CAFAM, technical data and components.

11. Analysis of CAFAM data for spares holding and use to enable adequate stock provision. Monthly minimum and maximum component (rotable and consumable) shelf life and stock reports.

12. Oversight of Rothera and Halley indents including monitoring and adjustment of stock levels for “shop supplies”, oils and greases, and ground equipment.

13. Logging of Technical Information (Mods, Repairs, AD’s, SB’s) into TIAF system and Aircraft records.

14. Any other tasks within the remit of the role as required by the Head of Engineering.

15. Undertake any other duties as required by the Director of BAS.
