Job Role:

Perform a wide variety of unusual as well as difficult visual, dimensional, and operational inspections. Make complex calculations, calibrations, and set-ups to ensure tooling will produce a quality product to an approved type design. You must possess a broad knowledge of product applications and operations in the fabrication/assembly process to ensure conformity to specifications. Use of certain equipment including but not limited to; optics, Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), FARO Arm, scales, micrometers, calipers, pin gauges, thread gauges, other measuring devices and test equipment. Must be able to work independently or with minimal direction from a Lead or Supervisor.

Required Skills

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands to fingers, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and/or hear; and occasionally required to sit, climb or balance; and use the sense of smell. Employee will frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds, occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds, and rarely lift and/or move over 50 pounds. You must be able to pass a Company-administered vision exam. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability that is required of this positon. * Works from complicated blueprints, Material Review Boards, dispositions, Piper Process Specifications(PPS), Piper Material Specifications (PMS), Purchase Specifications (PS), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Regulations, Quality Assurance Manuals (QAM), various handbooks, travelers, engineering/tooling/rework orders, and written/verbal instructions.

* Receive work assignment from supervisor, engineering, and or manufacturing.

* Insure that only the latest approved applicable drawings, specifications, Federal Aviation Regulations, Quality Assurance Manual, and instructions are used during inspection and testing.

* Use all varieties of precision measuring instruments.

* Perform First Part and Conformity inspections, as required.

* Accept/reject according to specifications.

* Examine defective parts to determine cause of defect and recommends changes or modifications.

* Monitor rework/repair.

* Note and report deviations from established specifications and initiate required documentation to effect corrections.

* Review all tooling fixtures ensure safe operation.

* Provide written report regarding inspection and testing results as required.

* Other duties as assigned by Leadperson/Supervisor.

* Interface with assigned engineering and tooling personnel, define problems and make effective recommendations to eliminate causes.

* Inspect, and verify all tools to be used in the manufacturing of aircraft, parts and assemblies are in compliance with all of the latest approved applicable drawings, specifications and Quality Assurance/Tooling Manuals.

* Test units for fit of moving parts and mechanical functioning.

* Test parts for hardness.

* Determine proper method of inspecting tools, parts or assemblies and plan gauging set-ups and appropriate measuring instruments/devices to be used to check dimensions, angles, and location of details where the design of items being inspected requires considerable thought and planning.

* Devise unusual measuring or gauging setups.

* Recommends corrective procedures to tooling, methods or engineering departments.

* Maintain accurate and detailed records, files, and reports of all inspections and test conducted.

* Scrutinize every facet of job and report improper operation, tooling fixtures, faulty equipment, defective materials, and unusual conditions to Leadperson/Supervisor.

* Requires the use of and ownership of basic tools and various hand tools as specified by departmental tool list.

* Perform housekeeping chores as department requirements dictate.

* Works independently with little or no direction from Leadperson/Supervisor.

Required Experience

High school diploma, or general education degree (GED) and over five years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. Requires the use of highly specialized knowledge along with the ability to interpret drawings and/or blueprints.
