We are seeking a skilled Systems Engineer to join Air Canada Maintenance Fleet Engineering. The qualified incumbent will be responsible for reliability and airworthiness of aircraft hydro-mechanical systems and landing gears together with support to Line and Airframe Maintenance for the assigned systems. In addition, the candidate will support the different departments within and outside of Air Canada Maintenance.

Initiate and develop technical solutions to ensure aircraft system’s performance meets corporate requirements for cost, reliability, and airworthiness.

* Review of aircraft and component reliability data and identify root cause of failure

* Develop cost effective engineering solutions with justification to improve aircraft reliability
* Develop in-house solution or embodiment of applicable Service Bulletin
* Prepare engineering calculations and / or tests and related reports.
* Raise request for financial approval
* Recommend maintenance manuals revisions
* Assess impact on aircraft maintenance program and systems configuration

* Review and embodiment of Airworthiness Directives, Service Bulletins and other OEM technical documents

* Provide engineering support (on and off work hours) to other departments including but not limited to:
* Line Maintenance and Maintenance Control for troubleshooting on-wing systems problems
* Airframe Maintenance during Heavy Maintenance events
* Aircraft Programs for Entry into Service

* Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and accommodate changing priorities

* Liaise with OEM’s, MRO’s and Regulatory Agencies

* Represent Engineering during multidiscipline meetings and provide input in area of expertise.

* Support Safety Investigations of aircraft or incidents caused by malfunction or operational deviations

* Contribute to reduction of operational and maintenance cost.

* Maintaining knowledge of Transport Canada regulations affecting area of expertise.

Qualifications

* Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering or Mechanical Engineering recognized by a Canadian university or provincial engineering association (proof of equivalency required)
* Minimum of 3 years aerospace or airline engineering experience.
* Excellent communication skills, both written and oral in English – French is an asset
* Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
* Pride in accuracy and good work presentation to the satisfaction of internal customers.
* Self-starter requiring minimum supervision with good decision-making ability.
* Strong analytical skills and ability to co-ordinate details to successful conclusion.
* Willingness to be on call and to work overtime at and away from home base, as required by day-to-day needs.
* Availability to travel overseas for training, industry meetings, etc.
* Solid knowledge of most commonly used PC software
* Must be clear of any restrictions which will prevent entry into other countries.

Assets:

* Knowledge of Regulatory design certification standards for both Transport Canada and FAA specifications.
* Knowledge Configuration management
