***Depending on the location of the chosen qualified candidate, this position may sit in Fort Collins, CO; Rockford, IL; or Niles, IL***

Position Purpose:

Provide high level guidance, training and development of new suppliers selected by the global commodity groups. In addition, supplier development engineering is the owner of the sourcing quality system. As such, SDEs manage and improve the quality systems with sourcing as well as provide mentoring and training to the supplier quality engineering group.

Essential Functions:

* Lead Global Sourcing supplier assessment process activities to evaluate whether a potential new supplier meets Woodward requirements.

* Work with commodity teams to identify supplier capability / capacity / system gaps determined through supplier assessment activities.

* Collaborate with commodity teams and suppliers as needed to create supplier development plans to mitigate risks associated with supplier capability / system gaps.

* Provide project management regarding the implementation of development plans with key suppliers to support commodity strategies.

* Coordinate with commodity teams to evaluate overall commodity supplier performance to identify and drive supplier performance improvement opportunities.

* Lead commodity-specific supplier improvement projects.

* Serve as quality systems and supplier development escalation point of contact within commodity teams.

* Assess and direct improvement activities within supply base in the areas of Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing.

* Disseminate Woodward process understanding to ensure internal and supplier compliance to requirements.

Other Functions:

* Interface with customers, as required, to understand and drive requirements flow-down to supply base.

* Drive, specify, andcreate internal tools related to sourcing processes.

* Mentor and guide SQEas, SDEas, and CQEasconcerning complex problems and training needs.

* Provide working knowledge and guidance on all sourcing systems and tools.

* Evaluate and implement new sourcing tools and systems.

* Project manage and lead SDN (Supplier Development Network) activities to drive QDRC (quality, delivery, responsiveness, and cost) improvements for the mutual benefit of Woodward and the supplier.

* Evaluate Supplier PPAP Waiver requests and coordinate accordingly with SQEas to properly disposition waiver requests.

Materials and Equipment Used:

* Standard office equipment such as telephones, calculators, personal computers, or workstations, fax machines, etc.

* Office automation tools such as the Microsoft Office Suite of applications.

* Statistical analysis software applications such as SPC XL, Minitab, or similar.

Working Environment / Physical Activities:

* General office environment.

* Occasional domestic or international travel required.

* Frequently required to attend meetings or conference calls and occasionally required to conduct / lead meetings or calls.

Qualifications

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

* Demonstrated ability to think strategically; ability to analyze supply base alignment with commodity strategies.
* Strong written and verbal communication skills; including presentation and public speaking.
* Advanced knowledge, participation, and leadership (as needed) in Six Sigma activities, including Kaizen, Value Stream Mapping (VSM) and other continuous improvement activities.
* Advanced knowledge and demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships.
* Possesses thorough understanding of business systems and quality processes.
* Advanced effective interpersonal skills and interfacing with operations management, both internal and external, across domestic and international functions and organizations.
* Demonstrated experience leading change and driving results within organizations, both internal and external, across domestic and international functions and organizations.
* Strong background in machining and mechanical manufacturing technologies.
* Solid understanding of AS9100, ISO-9001, and TS-16949 quality standard requirements.

Education or Formal Training:

* 4-year degree in technical field or 7-10 years of quality, manufacturing, or process control experience.
* Blackbelt training / certification.

Experience Required:

*
* 7+ years experience in quality and/or process control roles.
* Specialized technical knowledge / expertise within a specific commodity preferred.
