We are looking for a talented Structural Test Engineer to join our UK team based at our Yeovil site in the South West of England.

As an Structural Test Engineer, your main purpose is to ...

The scope of this role is based in Yeovil, and whilst does not have a specific budget responsibility, an awareness of budgets and their implication on overall department performance is necessary.

The role is expected to operate to a large extent autonomously, interfacing with other departments within the company, whilst drawing on the experience from the department. The role will interface on a daily basis with departments within both Engineering and other Leonardo manufacturing plants (Final Assembly Line, Dynamic Composites Components & Transmissions for example). The role may also interface with departments in Leonardo Helicopters in other countries.

Key Responsibility Areas


Within the Structural Test Laboratory in Yeovil, your main activities will include, but not be limited to:

  • Conducting structural tests of aircraft components, that includes:
  • Discussion / preparation of Test Proposals with other functions
  • Calibration of test specimens and test rig components
  • Setting up of tests
  • Running static and fatigue tests
  • Analysis of data during and post test
  • Reporting
  • Improving test methods and keeping test methods updated.
  • Ensuring personal working practices conform to the Company Health & Safety Policy in the Test Laboratory.

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required

  • Degree in a relevant subject (e.g. electrical or electronic engineering) or HNC/HND/BTEC and Apprenticeship together with suitable experience and a strong desire to work in an area of Engineering with a practical aspect.
  • Understanding in instrumentation techniques including experience in the areas of strain gauges.
  • Ability to understand Technical Drawings.
  • Flexible attitude with willingness and ability to work in a team environment is essential.
  • Full driving license.
  • IT literate.

In addition, the following attributes are desirable:

  • Experience in strain gauging and instrumentation
