Job Responsibilities
Carrier, a leading provider of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems has an exciting opportunity for a Staff Modeling & Simulation Mechanical Engineer to join its Carrier Transicold Engineering team located in Syracuse, NY.
Our Carrier Transicold Engineering team is providing game changing solutions to make Carrier’s truck trailer and container transportation refrigeration units better and smarter. Our products are undergoing a radical transformation into intelligent refrigeration systems that are more efficient and reliable. The engineering team at Carrier Transicold designs, develop and supports advanced refrigeration systems and is continuously adopting new development technologies and capabilities.
The Staff Mechanical Engineer will work as part of our team creating efficient, high quality, and reliable products for Carrier Transportation Refrigeration Units. The Staff Mechanical Engineer will drive utilization of state of the art modeling and simulation tools and methodologies in the engineering organization to create and qualify new products.
This position will be primarily focused on leading the adoption of dynamic simulation to assist with the design of new controls systems, but will also extend to physics based data analytics, lab experimentation and qualification activities.
Specific responsibilities will be:
* Lead and execute refrigeration product development projects using model based design tools, specifically the application dynamic modeling for control design;
* Develop and maintain thermal system level models using Dymola and integrating it with MATLAB/Simulink for control analysis and design via the FMI standard.
* Define and execute experimental campaigns for model validation and verification.
* Work on numerical efficiency and speed of computation for real time simulations.
* Perform design studies and qualification activities by means of simulation and experimentation.
* Interact closely with development teams to provide technical support on model based design methodologies, as well influencing the engineering organization towards the adoption of model based design and verification.
* Coordinate model development activities of a group of engineers and train them to become model developers and users.
* Document modeling approaches and workflows, and conduct technical presentations to share results.
* Be the primary contact of Carrier Transicold with Carrier’s central engineering organization for matters associated with system modeling activities.
