Software Manager, Engineering Connectivity
We are looking for a Software Engineering Manager to join our dynamic team in the research, design and development of computer software systems for state of the art In Flight Entertainment and Connectivity systems. Must be able to apply principles and best industry practices of computer science and engineering management to come up with creative solutions. Will be responsible for all aspects of software development, from working with systems to define requirements, to planning and executing on software developments, to consistently deliver high quality software at industry leading pace. Position could have multiple team leads and engineers, and will have responsibility of multiple key projects. Also expected to be a coach and leader in engineers’ career and growth, to develop technology roadmaps and training plans.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
• Manages and directs activities for development and integration of new products, improving and innovating on existing designs
• Responsible for software solutions that will provide connectivity to the aircraft to enable innovative services
• Interfaces with stake holders to create development plans to support product roadmaps
• Analyzes technology trends, human resource needs, and customer needs to plan, organize and coordinate projects.
• Administers personnel functions, including recruiting, selection and placement of engineers.
• Sets clear goals and continuously manages performance and growth of employees.
• Provides technical leadership and vision to build best in class software engineering teams.
• Manages software lifecycle of owned software in the organization
• Applies qualitative methods for continuous improvements of development processes to achieve peak performance
• Provides technical leadership to build cutting edge software, and to foster a culture of innovation.
KNOWLEDGE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS
• Expertise in determining scope, approach, schedules to accomplish overall objectives and programs.
• Mastery of software development processes at various phases including best in class industry practices for methods and tools such as test driven development, continuous integration, scrum and agile.
• Ability to communicate effectively and to work seamlessly with cross-functional organizations and groups.
• Ability to direct and coordinate staff in developing solutions to technical problems.
• Ability to inspire and motivate teams, and to provide vision and forward looking direction.
• Detailed planning and problem solving/critical thinking skills to ensure the timely completion of several, complex projects
• Technical understanding of Linux based infotainment systems which could include embedded client/server developments, application developments, and support system infrastructure developments
• Experience in developing communications solutions is required with satellite with working knowledge of Ku technologies a plus
• Experience in developing Wifi solutions is preferred with solid understanding of related technologies (802.11x, MIMO, WAPs) and various networking protocols (TCP/IP, UDP, SIP, RTP, NAT, IPSec, HTTP, DNS, RADIUS, SNMP)
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
• B.S. degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Systems. Advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum 10 years of related work experience in software development and engineering
• Minimum 3 years experience in software engineering management / project leadership position
