Your responsibilities will include:

Project Gemini delivers an Over The Horizon RADAR (OTHR) signal transmission capability using Lockheed Martin’s state of the art signal drive chain and amplification processors. The aim of the Gemini system is to be an easily configurable and scalable modular system that can interface to a customer’s RADAR tasking system at one end, and transmission antennae at the other.

Project Gemini’s capability focusses around three component sub-systems:
* High Power Amplifiers (HPAs)
* HPA Chilling systems, and
* A HPA Safety System

The software scope of Project Gemini is to produce software components that control and monitor these three component subsystems in operation, by receiving and translating messages from a customer’s tasking system. Further, the software is required to test these components by receiving and translating messages from an automated test suite.

Working as an integral member of the team, the primary responsibility of the Software Lead position is to lead the development of project software related deliverables to ensure all technical and quality requirements are met.

Responding to the Project Gemini Technical Lead, you will lead and undertake activities to identify, analyse, select and apply concepts, technologies and techniques that are applicable to the technical development of monitoring and control software.

In performing this role, you will be required to actively manage the proposal of complex technical solutions proposed by yourself and team Subject Matter Experts, development of software requirement, design and test rationale, implementation of code and unit test across two small software teams, whilst overcoming project technical issues within an agile team environment.

You will also be responsible for resolution of problems identified during the conduct of software development, integration and test and support the development of junior engineering staff.

About you:

Essential skills and experience include:
* Extensive knowledge of Software Engineering process, procedures and the overall engineering product lifecycle
* Advanced experience in software engineering methodologies and techniques preferably in a monitoring and control defence environment
* Advanced experience leading and/or managing multiple small teams to successful outcomes
* Excellent ability to apply experiential judgement and lateral approaches to complex problem solving.
Skills in any of the following is highly desirable:
* Experience with Data Distribution System for real-time systems (DDS)
* Experience of OTHR system design
* Agile software development and team leading experience

Special Requirements:

Applicants are required to be Australian Citizens and hold a current or re-instatable NV1 Defence Security Clearance or be eligible to gain this.
