The role will involve:

To provide line management on shift to the machine shop. The role is to rotate as required with shifts in operation to meet business targets and sales. To support the operation of the machine to provide greater than 95% of plan, of pieces and assemblies, with less than 10% overtime, and less than 9% scrap. Complete inspections, audit, assessments, and interviews to support business 14001 / 18001 / 9001 approvals.

Responsibilities and duties include:

  • Assisting Business Unit Manager in the day-to-day running of the Machine Shop.

  • Progressing orders from the planning stage through to final stage inspection / delivery to Fabrication & Customer

  • Administration of daily production schedule operating programmes for all machining / inspection / production areas.

  • Control shift absenteeism / holidays / first levels of discipline

  • Maintain, and develop departmental health and safety. Also attend monthly departmental safety meeting.

  • Provide thorough accident / incident investigations.

  • Maintain fire / ladder / eyewash station inspections, and regular area safety audits, assessments & inspections.

  • Maintain operator training matrices / develop internal operator training requirements

  • Liaise with maintenance manager / charge hand / operators to provide available production equipment to support the plan, and benefit the OEE within the department.

  • Ensure plant and equipment is monitored / measured / analysed / rectified as needed to support / benefit as above.

  • Liaise with quality department / casting engineer to ensure production is carried out in accordance with SOP’s / PM in place.

  • Organising weekly shift rotas

  • Control NCR’s

  • Ordering consumables

  • Ensuring good workplace organisation (5s) is maintained across the department.
