Hiring talented and motivated software engineers is key to our company success. We are currently searching for a part-time Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join our CNS (Communications, Navigation, and Surveillance) Communications department in Melbourne, FL. The candidate will work with customers, engineering and program management, systems hardware and software developers, production, and subcontractors to provide solutions and support for both domestic and international customers. We are seeking individuals who have the technical skills and a desire to execute on new and established product programs while maintaining a flexible work schedule.

Job Responsibilities

This part time Senior Embedded Software Engineer will be a part of an integrated cross-functional team responsible for designing, developing, and testing software for communication products. Responsibilities will include designing, and developing real-time embedded software, creating and reviewing specifications, interfacing with remote teams and integrating and testing the product prior to product customer delivery and certification.

Additional responsibilities may include:
* Contribute to software engineering requirements capture and analysis.
* Design, code, test, integrate and document software of varying levels of complexity. Apply and tailor internal processes, using knowledge of methods and tools for software development and documentation efforts. Ensure that development products meet the applicable Collins, Business Unit, and Customer/Project requirements.
* Participate in cross-functional team efforts in the definition, integration, verification and validation of products and sub-systems of varying levels of complexity.
* Help to identify systemic root causes and process improvements and recommend new approaches, tools, techniques that will improve the software development processes.
* Capable of proactively identifying and communicating technical software issues and helping to resolve these issues. Ensure these issues are elevated to project leadership for resolution.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

* Candidates for this role should possess a Bachelor’s degree and five years of prior relevant experience or an Advanced degree and three years of prior relevant experience* Experience in real-time embedded software engineering
* Solid understanding of software development methodologies
* Have experience in C, C++ language development
* The ability to learn and perform in all phases of the software engineering life cycle including requirements analysis, software design, code development, integration and test, and documentation
* Have a willingness to apply a structured process to assignments

Desired:
* Experience with avionics certification and DO-178B/C
* Experience in real time operating systems such as VxWorks, Greenhills, Linux etc.
* Previous experience working with offsite/offshore teams
* Previous experience with code repositories such as GIT and Subversion (SVN)
* Previous Experience with the Agile development methodology using continuous integration and delivery and Atlassian products
* Technical experience with communications product (HF, VHF, SATCOM) software development.
* Software Verification with emphasis on automated test procedures using Python or JavaScript.
