Senior Director Sciences

We’re looking for a Data Science Leader to strengthen our science capabilities and help make Skyscanner the standout company globally to combine science and development. The successful Data Science leader will join us in our London or Edinburgh office and be part of our highly distributed global leadership team.

Our senior leadership team deeply values Data Science as a core principle and would like to spread the scientific method, data-driven decisions, and the culture of experimentation across everything we do at Skyscanner. As such there would be no “educating upwards”, instead you’d be starting with Product & Engineering to educate our engineers and ingrain the scientific method into every decision we make.

You would lead a team of Data Scientists and Managers. As this is a huge priority for the organisation, the Data Science team is likely to significantly grow in size.

Skyscanner operates in a Tribes and Squads model and we have created a culture where there is a high level of trust, autonomy and transparency. Our engine uses global scale services, big data and machine learning to capture, normalise and make sense of real-time information from our thousands of partners. These are hugely complex problems, primed from the objective scientific method.

What we are looking for:

* Strong academic and research background (PhD preferred or equivalent experience)

* Proven experience in leading data science within a company

* Commercial acumen and experience influencing a company through science

* Excellent communication skills and the ability to impart the benefits of infusing science into everything we do

* Confidence operating at a high level of autonomy across highly distributed global teams

* Previous job experience within an internet economy business or equivalent is preferred
