Job Summary

The Desktop Engineering Administrator is responsible for the disciplined management of the client computing environment. This includes planning and executing software and hardware installations and upgrades as well as retirement of legacy functions. Planning, deploying and analyzing the performance and health for the supported systems. The administrator is expected to work within cross-functional information technology project teams. This position provides support for design and deployment of custom developed solutions and commercial software. This position must analyze, evaluate, modify, test, and implement enterprise wide systems and software. As the operational owner of various solutions, this position is responsible for the overall health and performance of a system and frequently works with infrastructure administrators and developers to deliver and maintain robust solutions.

Job Responsibilities

* Coordinates monitoring that uses standard monitoring tool set to ensure availability of service. Defines parameters that can be leveraged to create reports and alerts.

* Has significant troubleshooting skills and experience which can be leveraged to provide solutions to complex problems. Ability to automate tasks via multiple scripting or programming languages.

* Aware and sensitive to all policies and procedures and requires no supervision to ensure compliance. Assists in the development / review of new policies and procedures.

* Regularly works with other members of Information Technology organization as part of cross functional team and/or leads large cross- functional IT initiatives. Builds strong relationships with customers and peers. Receives little instruction from leadership and is expected to delegate to peers when appropriate.

* Has enterprise level experience with project management and Solutions Delivery gating process.

* Has enterprise level experience with software or application development and the software development lifecycle.

* Creates and oversees execution of deployment plans and operational activities such as patching, upgrades, etc. Finalize plans and coordinate actions of upstream and downstream activities as part of cross functional team.

* Responsible for requirements capture activities within the team including both customer and derived technical requirements. Ensures use cases, workflow, and requirements are accurate and complete

* Responsible for the development of contextual solutions designs within a specific IT discipline. Leads design activities for large enterprise initiatives. Aligns Solutions Design with Reference Architecture where applicable.

* Create solution Matrix w/ cost & schedule.

* Determine evaluation criteria and assesses software and hardware products in terms of operational capabilities based on these established criteria. Understands the marketplace for products we are pursuing.

* Leads and coordinates proof of concepts for validation against req’s (if needed) and solutions design review and ranking w/ customer & leadership.

* Understands industry trends within specific IT disciplines and evaluates them for use within Rockwell Collins solutions.

* Has a basic understanding of Information Technology and expertise outside of the specific focus area.

* Develops advanced concepts, techniques and standards in partnership with Architecture and other IT Service Owners

* Develops solutions that create a precedent for future decisions.

* Responsible for advanced technical and personal mentoring of less- senior team members.

* Builds forecasting modules which identify future capacity problems. Propose lean solutions that are available with sufficient lead time to ensure the businesses ability to act. Installed solutions should be scalable, flexible and elastic to allow for organic capacity growth.

Basic Qualifications

5+ years med/large enterprise experience in at least 2 of the following:

* Client Computer Hardware Administration (SCCM preferred)

* Application Packaging

* Operating Systems Delivery

* Powershell / Visual Basic Scripting
