We are looking for a full time Aviation Senior Software Engineer/Airframe Lead who is interested in providing technical leadership and project planning for software development for products, applications, or systems new to Garmin at our location in Olathe, KS, a suburb of Kansas City. In this role, you’ll also be responsible for serving in a leadership capacity for carrying out software development in primarily C and Python programming languages. This role provides the opportunity to be customer facing with aircraft original equipment manufacturers in addition to software engineering duties. Other essential functions include:

* Demonstrates excellence in software development for airframe specific and airframe independent functionality in GIFD Displays

* Successfully manage OEM relationship and requirements through maintaining a positive relationship, creating an understanding of the airframe needs, manage issue lists, and ensures customer expectations are appropriately calibrated

* Develops and maintains configuration data associated with one or more airframes

* Ensures completeness, accuracy, and timeliness of all life-cycle activities associated with the handling of the airframe config and loader image deliverables

* Facilitates the understanding of system bench and system operations so that other software engineers can effectively reconcile issues at a system level

* Develops and maintains a continually executing regression test suite for airframe specific functionality

* Researches fundamental problems and implements algorithm solutions that are appropriate

* Offers peer technical assessments in areas of expertise, new technologies and software designs

* Work cross functionally within different engineering facets of Garmin as well as team with program coordinator, system, and system test counterparts to ensure all aspects of the program are tended to

* Evaluate new technologies and work with software vendors to integrate externally developed deliverables into projects.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

Qualified candidates for this role will possess a Master of Science Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Math or Physics or another relevant engineering/technical field AND a minimum of 3 years relevant experience OR Bachelor of Science Degree in any of the fields noted above AND a minimum of 5 year relevant experience OR an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience with a cumulative GPA greater than or equal to 3.0. Candidates will also demonstrate proficiency with designing architecture software systems and modules that support new technology or improve capability/performance of existing functionality and competence with researching fundamental problems and implementing appropriate algorithmic solutions. Demonstrated ability to serve as a lead software engineer for a complex software project and the ability to decompose functional requirements into well-defined tasks while balancing quality, quantity and complexity in work output are also required. Other requirements include:

* Must possess proficiency in writing software in C and Python as appropriate for performing the essential functions of this job description

* Have customer service skills and exude servant leadership with internal and external customers

* Demonstrated strong and effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

* Demonstrated capability to offer peer technical assessments in areas of expertise, new technologies and software designs
Preferred Quailfications

* Previous aviation experience

* Previous safety critical development experience

* Previous embedded development experience

* Candidates that have experience with RTCA DO-178B software development and certification testing procedures, and/or a Private pilot’s certificate
