L3 Fuzing & Ordnance Systems (L3 FOS) is the largest fuze manufacturer in the United States and is one of the most advanced manufacturers of Fuzing and Ordnance products in the world.

Primary responsibility is to protect the customer in regards to product quality and ensuring contract requirements are met. This includes ensuring/verifying the quality of product inputs and the quality of product outputs.

Provide quality support of surface mount technology (SMT) processes. *This responsibility is dependent on the applicants qualifications; see Qualifications section for additional explanation.

Review the purchase order, contract and specification to determine quality requirements. Assure these requirements are complied with throughout all stages of the project, from initial quotation request through production and delivery. Develop a Program Quality Plan.

Use analysis techniques ( statistical analysis, problem solving, process mapping, SPC, Root Cause, etc.) to monitor suppliers and production. Identify potential product quality concerns and opportunities for improvement.

Coordinate with Government / customer to schedule source inspection of materials and services as required. Interface with customer during product testing and/or special inspection or test equipment reviews.

Witness product testing and participate in failure analyses to resolve discrepancies.

Review drawings, contractual requirements, technical data packages (TDP’s), gage cards, Key Product / Process Characteristics, sampling plans, descriptions of manufacturing (DOM’s), supplier control plans, supplier test and inspection plans, and bills of material (BOM’s) to develop inspection plans for both components and assemblies and provide training to inspectors as required.

Coordinate drawing changes with design engineer and initiate changes to shop routings, gages and inspection documentation in conjunction with the Manufacturing Department.

Prepare Certifications of Conformance ( C of C ) for materials and services delivered to Government / customer. Review shipping documentation to ensure quality requirements compliance. Review waivers and deviation as required.

Prepare contract line items ( Quality Assurance Plans, First Article Inspection Reports, Quality Assessment Reports, etc .) submitted as assigned.

Participate in formal design review meetings and quality system reviews. Deliver presentations of program quality assessments to customer and internal personnel.

Chair the Material Review Board to make determination regarding part dispositions. Analyze nonconformance details to determine root cause and corrective action.

Champion all formal Corrective Action Record/Requests initiated internally and issued by the customer. Lead the corrective action team as the process subject matter expert.

Coordinate department Continuous Improvement activities.

Review new release drawings and changes with design engineer and provide input with respect to component and assembly design for manufacturability. Identify the need for and then coordinate design, acquisition and validation of custom gages.

Assist in bid and proposal responses providing hourly and financial budget information supported by documented basis of estimate.

Participate in the development products and processes and transition them from development thru to production.

Provide input and guidance as a peer reviewer of inspection plans and other contract line items.

Qualifications

*

Five (5) years minimum experience in Quality Engineering or equivalent combination of experience and education.

*

Knowledge of engineering drawings, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing, mechanical and electro-mechanical assemblies and gaging.

*

Experience in leading continuous improvement projects in a manufacturing environment.

*

Experience in automated electronic assembly and manufacturing methods ( stamping, casting, assembly, etc .) is desired.

*

Knowledge in industry standards ( ISO 9000, ANSI J-STD-001, etc .) is desired.

*

*Experience in quality support or manufacturing support of surface mount technology (SMT) processes is highly desired, but is not a required qualification. However, experience in SMT may be utilized as a substitute for some of the qualification requirements listed above.
