The
purpose of this position is to be a hands-on project engineer in technology
development to support the life support systems (air and water) area of
expertise. This will include Advanced
Exploration Life Support Systems Projects for technology development as well as
ISS and Orion flight hardware and other programs. This position will perform technical &
requirements evaluation and application, design & analysis development and
integration tasks with contractor and customer teams. This position requires knowledge
and experience in mechanics, electrical and chemistry. This position will
support multiple projects for requirements development and verification,
hardware development and testing,
project reviews, safety review support, technical, cost and schedule
input, system reviews and meeting status. Typical job functions will include
defining and maintaining key project requirements, technology development,
testing and demonstration, task definition and project planning, technical
writing, reporting risks, generating and reviewing drawings, reviewing of
requirements and verifications, conceptualizing methods of operations,
assessing trade studies and design, and presenting findings, reports, and
status to both contractor management and the NASA customer. This position will
be required to perform integration of the majority of engineering disciplines
on a weekly basis. This position will require the ability to allocate tasking,
status technical, budget, schedule and risks.
This position requires expertise in air monitoring or environmental
monitoring technologies. This position
will require the ability to solve complex problems, identify innovative
solutions, and interpret customer challenges and recommend best practices to
improve products, processes or services based on specialized knowledge. This position will require the ability to
communicate difficult concepts and negotiate with others to influence
decisions.

Qualifications

Education /Experience:

REQUIRED:

• BS degree in Engineering or related field with 15 years of project engineering and management experience with a minimum of 7 years of Life Support System experience or MS/Ph.D. with 8 years of related experience

• Experience in project planning, trade studies, objective and element identification

• Capable of identifying measures or indicators of system performance and the actions needed to improve or correct performance relative to the goals of the system

• Ability to read Engineering Drawings

• Capable of identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions

• Experience with NASA systems and processes

• Able to coordinate across multiple organizations

• Able to develop and clearly communicate information to technical forums

DESIRED:

• Understanding of NASA Systems Engineering processes and practices (ref. NASA/SPNASA Systems Engineering Handbook); particularly pre-phase A development tasks (e.g. functional decomposition, verification and validation planning, concept of operations, etc.)

• Understanding/exposure to ECLSS functions (particularly in the area of Air systems and Water Recovery and Potable Water management)

Skills/Training:

REQUIRED:

• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

• Ability to read Engineering Drawings

• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, both formal and informal

• Effectiveness in supporting hardware development and technology development

• Effectiveness in producing and maintaining schedules and cost analysis

• Able to manage time and schedule assigned tasks

• Experience presenting technical concepts and information effectively

• Configuration management / Data management experience      

DESIRED:

• Proficiency with SharePoint is a plus

• Familiarity with NASA or DoD Work Instructions

• Exhibit a strong work ethic and commitment to the customer, program, and team

• Experience with NASA JSC test processes, protocols and facilities

• Understanding of ISS systems engineering processes and products, including ISS payloads

• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously and meet deadlines for competing customers/stakeholders
