POSITION PURPOSE
Manage the Engineering Product Manager (EPM) team who are responsible for leading the design, development, and sustainment (life cycle management) of all product lines to deliver products that meet or exceed performance requirements and customer satisfaction. These engineering efforts include anything necessary to facilitate the production and on-time delivery of their respective product line during production. Provide technical guidance to the EPMs that encompasses a detailed knowledge of image intensifier operation and fabrication processes at all levels:
* Sub-component level (photocathodes, MCPs, ceramic body, phosphor screens, module packaging, and power supply electronics assembly),
* Ultra-high vacuum processing (exhaust),
* Bare image intensifier post-processing and testing
* Completed module encapsulation and packaging
* Final acceptance testing
* Higher level environmental and performance testing
This comprehensive level of knowledge must also include developing an understanding of the significant inter-relationships between these processes on the various steps and how they interact with production performance.
The management tasks include:
* Assist the EPMs with identifying and managing engineering projects and associated efforts to support these product line development and/or improvement goals through all stages of development: planning, budget & unit cost estimation, verification, validation, and final execution in the production area to customer delivery.
* Where needed, form integrated product teams and assign EPM leads to resolve any design & integration conflicts or other issues identified during development and/or execution, as well as provide support to the programs office to address any end-user issues.
* Monitor and ensure the EPMs apply emphasis on material and labor cost control without sacrificing quality or delivery requirements.
* Ensure that regular, clear, and effective communication is maintained between the EPMs and both internal and external customers, as well as manufacturing operations and quality assurance, ensuring both technical specifications and customer expectations are met.
* Capture and provide weekly written reports on status to the Engineering team as well as ensure the product line performance reviews are maintained and presented to upper management as required, highlighting all issues that create risk to product quality, yield, cost or delivery.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
* Manage the engineering product managers with assigned projects/product lines and support/drive engineering efforts in both R&D and production
* Provide technical guidance to the EPMs and manufacturing operations managers and supervisors
