Job Summary
Become part of the growing Mission Systems (MS) Communications hardware design team. As an engineer in this organization, you will be a member the hardware design team that is responsible for all Collins Aerospace MS communications products and other associated tasks within the business unit.
Our team is looking for innovative and passionate engineer to support development and mature hardware used in high performance communication products, such as software-defined radios and data links and to serve as a technical leader within the MS Communications Hardware Design Group. As part of our team, you’ll be exposed to cutting edge technology and have the ability to significantly contribute to the creation of our newest products. This position also requires skills in all phases of the electrical engineering design methodology of new concepts in broadband RF systems and subsystems for military applications.
Job Responsibilities
Key activities will include:
* Support of design, development, documentation, integration, testing, and module and system level verification of any and all MS Communications hardware designs to mature through full rate production.
* Must demonstrate strong interface skills with both internal and external customers, as well as subcontractors.
* Will be required to technically lead a hardware design and verification team with clear focus on aggressive design to cost and schedule goals.
Primary assignments may include:
* Performing technical trade studies, leading technical proposal preparations, participating as a subject matter expert for various reviews, leading configuration capture, root cause investigations, and serving as a hardware development leader to capture, analyze, decompose, translate and create requirements for hardware systems of high complexity.
* Design, development, documentation, integration, testing, and module and system level verification of any and all MS Communications hardware designs.
* Requires the use and application of electrical engineering principles and techniques, and may involve hardware components or mixed electrical technologies for airborne and ground communication and Datalinks products.
* Will work closely with Program Management, Engineering Leadership, Systems, Software, Firmware, Mechanical, Environmental Effects, Manufacturing/Operations and Design-to-Cost staff to assure defined requirements are consistently met in all phases of a product’s lifecycle.
Basic Qualifications
Desired Experience/Skills:
*
A Bachelors of Science in Electrical Engineering and minimum of 6 years of experience required
*
Circuit board design experience
*
Experience leading technical proposal preparations, performing trade studies, and participating as a subject matter expert in technical reviews
*
Experience in aspects of the hardware lifecycle, including requirements capture, design and development, debug and test, and requirements validation (required)
*
Experience with performing detailed Analysis. Leads others in thinking through a logical, in-depth analysis of a problem or situation.
*
Be capable of making decisions that may have significant impact on cost, schedule, and technical performance.
*
Design tools experience with schematic capture, requirements capture, requirements capture, signal integrity and timing analysis (ex. DxDesigner, DOORS, and Hyperlynx).
*
Understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Test (DFT), Reliability analysis, PWB layout and routing rules, & EMC design
*
Military communications and data links experience
*
Experience in bid and proposal efforts (SEER bidding experience would be considered a plus)
*
Experience as a Project Engineer using Earned Value methods to track project execution
*
Synchronizing the product test solutions with the product configuration and support product design needs for the test solution rollout to Operations and Service areas.
*
Monitor the product returns from the field and root cause the failures possibly leading to design correction.
The successful candidate will be a self-starter, be able to handle unexpected events and take advantage of opportunities and events to achieve outstanding results. They must be willing and able to plan succession by mentoring junior and senior engineers.
Occasional domestic travel may be required.
