Role Overview:

Electric System, one of eight business units in the UTAS family and is a leading provider of electrical power generation, distribution, and control for commercial, regional, business and military aircraft. A focus on innovative physical and functional integration provide significant customer benefits including a lower cost to implement and operate as well as improved passenger safety and comfort. In addition to aerospace products. Key products include main and emergency power generation, intelligent power modules, power conversion and motor control, power distribution, and aircraft utility management.

Electric Systems is looking for a mechanical engineer to perform research, design and develop rotating mechanical seal technology in support of aircraft engine mounted generators, auxiliary generators, and Ram Air Turbines. The preferred candidate must have a track record of innovative mechanical design capability, strong analytical problem-solving skills, and extensive experience with rotating mechanical seal technologies and tribology.

Major Job Responsibilities Include:

Research/concept selection, design, analysis, and test of new products
Engineering documentation and design tool improvement such as hardware specification development, test plans, analytical reports, test reports, reliability assessments, and EXCEL and PC based tools for incorporation into company standard work
Adherence and development of engineering standard work
Interfacing with management, suppliers, customers, and members of the technical design team
Leading engineering investigations to establish root cause, and implement appropriate corrective actions

Qualification:

* At least 10 years demonstrated engineering excellence
* Progression in design, test, and fabrication of mechanical systems and rotating mechanical seals
* Expertise with technologies and specifically pumps, gears, transmissions, and generators
* Tribology expertise with wear critical surfaces
* Background with engineering drawings, structural analysis, and 3D design software is preferred
* Proficiency in ACE and/or Design for Six Sigma, particularly DOE is preferred
* Proficiency in utilizing advanced Excel capabilities (i.e. VBA, Solver, etc.) in the development of engineered products
* Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
* Ability to work in a team environment and communicate effectively with technical authority through all levels of the organization
* Demonstrates creative problem-solving experience and a robust work ethic
* Demonstrates the ability to prepare and execute a program plan.

Education:
* Bachelor of Science and Masters of Science in mechanical or engineering mechanics or a related field required.
* Ph.D. in mechanical engineering preferred with emphasis in tribology and mechanical rotating seals.
* Selected candidate must accept ownership of the design and development of the product while satisfying the needs and concerns of all stakeholders.
