Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
* Hands-on development and testing of custom lasers and other optical systems for free-space optical communications, remote sensing, RF photonics, and other applications
* Designing, setting up, and using optical test apparatus to evaluate key optical components and subsystems, and analyzing test results
* Developing lab instrument control software for automated testing
* If required, obtain/retain a government security clearance at the level required to perform the duties of the position
Minimum Qualifications:
* Bachelor’s degree in optics, physics, electrical engineering, or a related field
Preferred Qualifications:
* Independent senior research project, internship, or other similar hands-on research experience that involved one of more of the following: lasers, fiber optics, optical communications, nonlinear optics, spectroscopy, integrated photonics, or RF photonics
* Hands-on experience with common optical laboratory equipment such as photodiodes, oscilloscopes, and optical spectrum analyzers
* Master’s degree
Working Conditions:
Work is typically performed in an office and lab environment which requires proper safety precautions. Work requires some physical effort in the handling of materials, boxes, or equipment.
