Overview

Manages the Flight Dispatch function within the Spirit OCC and oversees the Flight Dispatchers. Ensures Spirit flights are dispatched safely and in accordance with applicable Federal Aviation Regulations, Ops Specs, Company Policies and Procedures. Responsible for Flight Dispatcher Training and Standardization, including the upkeep and development of all Dispatch related manual language.

Responsibilities

* Flights are dispatched safely and in accordance with applicable FARs and Company Policies.
* Promote an environment within the OCC that prioritizes Safety, Compliance, Teamwork, Inter-departmental Coordination, Cost Efficiency and internal Customer Service.
* Dispatch schedule and staffing levels are managed to ensure a strong balance between productivity, cost efficiency and Dispatch effectiveness.
* Dispatch practices are standardized and in alignment with guidance material and communications.
* Maintains and issues Dispatch Must Reads, OCM revisions and all Dispatch specific communication material to insure content is up to date, relevant and user friendly.
* Future needs are anticipated and strategic plans are implemented to ensure consistent Dispatch readiness to support the company’s growth, changing regulations/requirements and increasing operational complexities.
* Dispatch Instructors, OJT Trainers and Check Dispatchers are ready to execute the training plan.
* The Dispatch Training curriculum and program are managed to ensure full regulatory compliance in the most cost effective manner. New curriculum is developed to enable Spirit to continually improve Dispatch effectiveness. Dispatcher Training and Qualification records are maintained in CrewQual.
* Industry best practices, equipment, technology and methods are employed to achieve efficiency and continuous improvement of the Dispatch product.
* Dispatch related delays and irregularities minimized and when they do occur are reviewed. Reported problems are investigated and follow up is provided to Leadership and the other affected departments. Corrective actions are applied when needed.
* A Dispatch quality control program is developed to ensure dispatchers are acting in accordance with FARs and company policies. This includes scheduled audits, random audits, the tracking of results, and needed adjustments being incorporated into Dispatch Polices, Procedures and Training.
* Further develop and document the Dispatcher Training and Competency Check programs, ensuring proper checks and balance between training and standards. Administer comp checks as well as select and manage Comp Check qualified dispatchers.
* In coordination with the Manager of OCC, coordinates with Pilot Training to provide all new hire, recurrent and upgrade flight crewmembers with training material on Dispatch and OCC functions, capabilities, communication methods, contacts, and processes related to supporting flight crews.
* Promote pro-active communications between Flight Crews and Dispatchers to ensure operational information is shared in a timely manner and surprises are minimized.
* Assist the Manager of OCC and OCC Ops Managers in the day to day management of the OCC.
* Administer fuel plan monitoring and fuel policy compliance audits. Continually review the Fuel Policies and planning strategies (i.e. Cost Index Planning, random routing, alternate and contingency fuel use, etc.) to ensure safe, smart and economical fuel planning.
* May perform other responsibilities as assigned. Responsibilities and duties may change when circumstances dictate. (e.g. emergencies change in workload, rush jobs or technical developments.)

Qualifications

* FAA Aircraft Dispatcher Certificate
* Minimum of 5 years experience as a Flight Dispatcher
* Comprehensive knowledge of Federal Aviation Regulations and IATA/IOSA Standards
* In depth knowledge of Part 121 Operations
* Strong presentation skills
* Qualified Dispatcher
* Relevant tertiary degree is desirable
* Proficiency with Excel, Word and Power Point applications
* Strong training facilitation abilities
* Systems literate and technologically astute
* Strong motivation and leadership skills with the ability to lead and influence people
* Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills
* Experience in managing and developing direct reports
